Brain Suck - Determinasi Tinggi

A Standard Album with Nothing New Brought to the Table of Ideas - 75%

EvilAllen, January 23rd, 2020

Well, here we go again, got another review for you people to read. Brain Suck (odd-like name for a band, not even a good one, honestly) are an active grindcore 'n' death metal group from Indonesia (wherever that is, I assume planet earth...right?). Well, to be fair, like most bands that have grindcore in their style, seems to me that grindcore is always outweighing death metal when the two styles are fused into one. This is your average grindcore/death metal act, they don't bring anything unusual to the table for displayment. Would anyone classify these guys to be memorable? No, I don't think. Seems to me, a lot of these overrated genres have lost their way...and the fact, that the genres and their prime, are long, long-gone now. Even if bands like these got popular, people would still breathe down their neck, in regards to the genre(s) being the main influenced from previous bands that defined the concept of grindcore 'n' death metal... But you know, that's honestly pretty basic information. I'm not even that smart, but I like to pretend I am so people notice...but people who are smart, and smarter than me in general, will know I'm a total buffoon.

For this album being (currently) half-a-decade old, it seems to be holding its own. Even if nobody even knows of this album. I mean, it's not super-awesome, but it's pretty good in a basical regard to its existence. It's got really good production...and well, to-be-perfectly-honest-with-you...(anyone)...you're pretty brainless (because Brain Suck, sucked your brain's juices dry, idiot). To say the production of this album is shit, is like to say metal itself is bad. And you wouldn't like that, would you? The album's clear production allows anyone to witness the guitars chords and their progression really easily. Songs pushing nearly 200 BPM, with strong bass production adding to the fatness of the tracks, making the guitars have such a wild, monstrous sound. Almost like seeing the fat-freak from high school that nobody liked, in which, he became enranged from the lack of sugar-coated treats to rot his teeth with. Something like that. Just a (dumb) joke in bad taste. The drums aren't exciting, the very is lacking, the symbols are overly-used and it's a bit depressing....but I've heard a lot worse, naturally.

The vocals are really fast-paced, sounds like an idiot-pig trying to speak English, but it's just lip-flubber getting in the way. It's probably not even English, but I'm assuming it is... The album has a good intro track, it's a little ambiant-like. Some of the songs have into clips, too...and one of the songs have a really...stupid-sounding "rap-track". But I will will say this, the album has really good vocal-and-instrumental mixing/mastering. But it would have been nice to see some ideas, that would have been newer to this scene. Seems like another band, just sounding like a bunch of other ones who share the same genre. But I do like it...though, some much-needed brightness is a must-have for this band if they're going to be serious about producing albums. It's easy to see why a lot of newer bands are hated these days, they're trying to aim too high, too fast...and they end up sounding like one-hundred-other-bands that share the same (exact) style...and it's just a bit bland 'h' boring. This might be pretty standard as a release, but I wouldn't really care listening to this whole release again. It'll always be underrated. Not really recommended, at least in my opinion.
