Legions of the Sky

Ok not really. This full length album from Blutrausch is a decent album plagued by a couple of extremely shitty songs. The album as a whole is a thrash industrial album with some death metal elements thrown in. The music as a whole isn't entirely bad. The guitars are excellent, and have a lot of harmony and melody to them. The guitar work on this album sounds like a mix of earlier Samael and Asphyx which is not bad at all. There are alot of interesting riffs on this CD.

The drumming is also very good on this cd. The drumming techniques of each song vary from every other song. On some songs the drumming is more thrash related, while in others the drumming is more death oriented.

What plagues this album though are some of the vocals, and God awful sound effects used. Because of this many of the songs are ruined.

Highlight:

The song "From Six Feet Below." starts off with a catchy keyboard riff, which leads to the drumming and the vocals. The drumming on this album is melodic, rhythmytic, and catchy. The industrial element are the best thing about this song, and add the element of evil to this song.

Lowlight:

The song "Blankes Shwert" could have been a good song. Hell it could have been the best song on this entire album. It reminds me of a painting that was perfect until the artist decided to add more to it. The song starts off with the sounds of a battle going on. For 38 seconds we hear the sound of clanging swords, yelling and screaming, and people being slaughtered. At the 00:38 mark the guitar enters with a catchy riff, that repeats itself for a minute or so. The guitar on this song is catchy and very death metal oriented.

What ruins this song though are the vocals! I should clarify though. The singer used two sets of vocals on this song. A lower raspier death metal style of vocal, and then a mechanical high pitched hollow voice. The former is not bad, and is filled with emotion, and melody. It's the latter voice that bugs the shit out of me. While the first set of vocals are going on a voice that keeps repeating "The end is near." is heard. As inplausible as this may seem it sounds like a robot is being raped up the ass. In this case the phrase "animal being raped" won't work. These vocals sound very non-human and non-animalistic.


The rest of the songs on here fall inbetween the value of "Six Feet Below" and "Blankes Shwert." Some of them are good, but not as good as "Six Feet Below." other songs are not as bad as "Blankes Schwert." but are not very good songs.

This album appears to be download exclusive, so it's really a matter of if you want to spare the memory for this album. If you're curious about "Legions of the Sky" then download it. If you like it, keep it. If not then delete it.
