Refreshing NS from the German Underground - 85%

Funeral_Winds, October 15th, 2005

I am not one to pay much attention to the introductions on black metal albums. I normally skip them. However Einklang isn't bad. The clean tune is OK, accompanied by the sounds of fire it sounds quite good.

Unleash The Sunwheel is easily the best song on the album, and it is indeed a very good song. The opening riff builds up to the main one, which I find to be very good, a fast paced and upbeat, simple and basic riff that interchanges with a slower one which is also good. The vocals I enjoy a lot, a tortured screaming that occassionally loses its rasp; however it is not too bad when that happens.

Sakrileg Des Hasses begins in a similar fashion to Unleash The Sunwheel however this opening "build-up" riff is better than the one of the same kind in the previous track. The vocals are in the song from around the beginning, and they have a very good effect of creating a hopeless sounding atmosphere, that stays throughout the entire song.

In Tiefster Nacht is another solid track, however I find that it is not executed perfectly, in places sounding a bit 'sloppy'. This may be due to the guitar tone, which I think needs more distortion. The riffs in this one are good as with all other tracks on the album. I especially like the second riff played on this album however I do not like the quality in which it is played.

All in all it is a very, very good release. It is original, inspired, and innovative. The vocals are great, and so is the riffage. It has a strong and prevalent atmosphere and steady drumming. The only thing I could possibly criticise is the sloppy playing of some of the riffs, however this occurence is rare in the album and not enough to take away much from the overall sound.
