Blakk Market - Hateful Affection

Awesome quality for a demo - 90%

wwekane, September 7th, 2006

The first time i saw these guys live i was blown away. This is quality metal that's hard to find nowadays when thoughtful production and cohesive songwriting have been replaced by sloppy chunks of noise new bands like to call music. So i bought the demo cd they were selling an that's how it all began.

Blakk Market plays what can be described best as melodic death metal. They don't necessarily reinvent the genre but still do a great job as not being just one more melodeath band. Both the lyrics and the insanely headbangable music indicate so. The vocals play a big part in this as they differ from the usual screeches you'll usually hear when listening to most bands of this genre. Solid drumming backed up by an ever present bass get along perfectly with the guitar duo that will deliver catchy, cohesive guitar solos and leads that'll make your fingers hurt from the air guitar you'll be doing.

On the production side, the sound quality is so clear you won't believe the songs were recorded so bluntly, straight from the amplifiers into a microphone. The artwork on the cover is awesome and there's even multimedia material when you pop the CD into your computer. There you can find bio, photos and even a videoclip. The only letdown of this release is that it, technically, only has two songs, as the other two are available in mp3 format in the multimedia section.

All in all, this is a must buy. It is a little hard to find though due to the limited number of copies and the range where it was distributed. However, if you're willing to get to know Blakk Market, there's plenty of downloadable content on their website (link on the band's page).
