Birdflesh - Night of the Ultimate Mosh - 90%

Phuling, April 23rd, 2008

Oh my God! Well ok. I don’t really have a God, but Oh someone else’s God! This is some fucked up shit. Really fast grindcore with seriously disturbed, and equally as funny, lyrics. Just take “Slaughter of flies”, in the lyrics he first kills a bunch of flies, then he accidentally falls on his sword and cuts his leg off, so the flies have sex with him. Muahahaha (evil laughter). That’s basically the kind of lyrics they have, and all of them are written by the drummer/vocalist Smattro Ansjovis. But there’s also a love song on here, “Eternal emotions”. “…Everyday you were there for me. When I needed someone to hold…”, it’s about him missing an old cheeseburger. Did I tell you about the disturbed and hilarious lyrics?

As I said this is really fast, the drums will mangle you to death! The vocals are kick-ass. The main vocals are neither growls nor screams, it’s something in between. And it’s accompanied by two back-ups, one seriously deep growling and another high-pitch screaming. It’s all good, I guarantee it. This record also’s got a bunch of guest musicians doing acoustic guitars, clarinet and so on. Once again proving Birdflesh’s grade of disturbance.

The artwork? I’m not saying anything! I can just tell you that it definitely fits the lyrics.
This is the LP version out on Swedish Putrid Filth Conspiracy, it was originally released as a CD on US-label Razorback Records. I prefer this version as it comes with a bonus track from on of their old demos.

If you don’t buy this I hope a birdgorilla will visit you late at night! All hail the masters! All hail Birdflesh!

Great Swedish Grind - 97%

Carmack, September 10th, 2003

Damn this is good. 22 tracks and 27 minutes of insanity from Sweden. With mostly grind and some death and thrash riffs this delivers in all the right ways. For vocals it's got screams, some pitch shifted growls, and nice growling. Has some Repulsion/Napalm Death influenced riffs as well but these days who doesn't? This band also adds a bit of humor. As you can see in the super cheesy coverart and lyrics. The stand out tracks are "Crowes in the nose", "Coffinfucker", and "Carmolesting Dead". So if you want some fast, catchy, humorious grindcore check this out.
