Dystopian Order: The Age of Detritus

I first witnessed this band perform in Cape Town in 2009. From that moment I knew that this band is going to make it big, or at least have a special place in my metal heart as the most brutal band to merge from South Africa!

In 2011 they entered Cape Town again. This time to market their brutal new masterpiece, Dystopian Order: The age of Detritus

After the remarkable show, while busy driving back home, I gave their EP a listen and was blown away by the technicality and brutal musicianship on it.

If I had to compare it to any other band, I would say Hate Eternal is the first that comes to mind. Secondly they have a sound similar to Morbid Angel. Their drummer, Ondier, definitely shares the technical and furious playing characteristics of the latter. Each song is filled with gravity blasts and super fast double bass.

Like most technical death metal, the guitar work is fast and everywhere on the fretboard at once. Bennie and Nicolas have no remorse for their guitars, only slowing once in a blue moon as can be heard in closing track, The Return.

The bass work is A grade and upon listening to the EP it becomes clear that Choroz isn't gonna sit back in the shadows and let the guitars do all the shredding.

Vocally this EP is oozing with brutal goodness! Rehan sounds just as psychotic as he is on stage. The vocal content dives between torturing humans, as in the obvious Tortured Till Death, and apocalypse scenarios, as in Amidst the Chaos. Everything that defines the recipe for the perfect brutal music listening session is present on this EP. Additional vocals are added here and there by the rest of the band members to give the EP that “oh fuck this shit is going to make my brain implode" sound.

The only reason I didn't give this EP 100% is because of the hunger for more brutality that I was left with. To put this review in a simpler view...do you like brutal death metal? Well this is your new favorite band. Go out and support this band. They have worked long and hard to bring you the best death metal on this ball of shit we call Earth.
