I'm going to admit that I'm a regular listener of electronic music, especially dark ambient, so I like to believe that I can contribute something in any discussion about the topic. I also like to believe that I can differentiate between the stuff that's worth the time and the stuff that's just prentious crap.
That being said, I consider this project of former Bestial Summoning member Conscicide to firmly fall into the latter category, because this stuff sounds as if someone is tinkering with a keyboard while he's trying out what his brand new drum machine is capable of. Only seldom does this slice of aural wallpaper conjure up anything resembling ambience of any sort. Most of what I hear on this album is layers of keyboards going 'dodoodooo' while a crappy sounding drum machine is doing 'bop tap' underneath it. Now OK, it isn't all crap, the opening to "Mud Strokes the Bone" has a bit of an unsetteling vibe going on, sounding like a primal bedroom take on something vaguely resembling dungeon synth, but it deteriorates into a drab synth piece soon enough, unfortunately. "Krebs" on the other hand has this almost minimal synthpop feel to it, with an added horror soundtrack edge, and that one I can appreciate for sure. That synthpop vibe also appears on the following track "The Oven", a track that actually achieves something other than me feeling bored. Apart from these few points of light, the rest of the album just gets stuck in what I would refer to as 'plinky-ploinky' music, so yeah, this is crap.
This stuff isn't worth your time, believe me on this one. The few good ideas present get drowned in a downpour of sludge, barely deserving of the label 'music'. I'm no stranger to experimental music, and I know this much: if you compare Bhaobhan Sidhe to stuff like Desiderii Marginis, Nordvargr, old Current 93, Coil or Aghast, they come out as the weaker one, absolutely.
There's way better stuff in that weird but wonderful world of dark electronics to explore, so let kitchen sink endeavors into experimental music such as this "Corpse Crater" be for what they are: redundant and disposable.
