A journey through LLN VIII - 50%

hailmarduk666, October 4th, 2009

Three of the LLN members, after their D&D game, get together in the dark and dank cellar that they were role playing in, and light some candles. Perhaps they don corpse paint, perhaps they are too trve to do so, but nonetheless...it's time to jam.

There is a bit of talent to be heard here, but it's mainly some guys banging around on some instruments. The vocals are laughable, and there is a very sing-song sound to the way he belts out the lyrics. It is probably the weakest link in this recording, he has this wowowow and yeahyeahyeahyeah sound, that is rediculous. Imagine a pre-pubescent kid, trying to sing like Shagrath while his mates are playing. It sounds like old Absu vocals, but sloppily done. Damn I am having a hard time relaying the sound he has, because it's really one of a kind. Not in a good way. He has a hard time keeping pitch and his voice trails out and cracks a lot, almost as if he's trying to puke. That Blwaaaaah before chunks fly.

The drumming is better than Varg Vikernes, on his early demos with Burzum, but are pretty simplistic, losing pace with the music when attempting to blast beat. There is no double bass because I don't believe he has the coordination. There are some random crash-symbolage, and his high-hat work gets entangled with his snare a bit. It's similar to the drummer from Happy Days, on their latest full-length, where he loses the beat a couple times and isn't timed properly with the guitars.

There is some decent thrashy riffs the guitarist uses, but it's tinny and slight. There is actually more bass than there is guitar in the recording. There are some half-assed single-string accents, along with the power chords being played, but it's no more technical than, say, NOFX or any other numerous garage punk bands. Problem is, they TRY to sound sloppy. The basswork goes along with the chord progression and only adds a slight amount of depth. There is nothing great here, the bassist sounds like he has only an elementary knowledge of the instrument, and doesn't stray far from his comfort zone...a simple chord progression with no pomp.

Overall this is a laughable 10 minute demo. The musicians have a very basic knowledge of playing together, and the jam session here is evidence. If you want a good chuckle, check this out.
