Bekhira - Demo '96

What the fuck is this supposed to be? - 25%

cinedracusio, January 29th, 2007

Well, first answer would be sorta resurrected Osculum Infame, but with much less inspiration. Second answer would be a constipated true black metal band.
First answer would be a good option because the band has some members of Osculum Infame, Wlad, the vocalist, and Malkira, the drummer. It would have been no problem because Osculum was a great band and its "twisted", "sick", "diabolic" minds have to succeed in their ascension or their fall to infernal perfection, right? Actually, there is a great problem to come: despite the fact that at the time when this album was released, the riffs (or better said riff) were rather fresh (MAYBE as good as Osculum Infame did, keep that in mind), in the contemporary period they sound incredibly dated out, and they suck compared to most of the bands that came maybe after Bekhira in the black metal scene, or are more active: Clandestine Blaze, Watain etc.
The second ugly duckling (related to the true black metal status) is that the music itself keeps wrecking your nerves. Incessant drum beats (and an occasional doomy smack the drum at every two seconds, like in the ending of the first track) that sound thin and do not add much to the atmosphere. Wlad was at his best on this demo, with the shrieks even hollower and more sawing than on his past act. The keyboards are nothing (absolutely nothing) compared to the works of Osculum Infame, so one guy wasted his time with those keys instead of getting a bitch or some booze. And the fantastic riff-o-rama is as mind-melting as a biscuit in a bag of chips: one riff. And the variations on several notes. (Note: who the fuck could ever claim that the riffs from Transylvanian Hunger sound similar?) This is the worst syndrome that Black Metal ever and will ever bear. The production is almost ethereal, so ya might lose the point of praising or even listening to this really quickly.
So bye-bye and until we meet again hope you make your lessons and keep your eyes not too close to this demo. Not worth the praise. You may get the full-length instead. Much more satisfying.
