Baphomet's second single, released in 1991, contains two live songs recorded with what sounds like a great crowd. I started off listening to this band chronologically, with their early demo and single and listening to this progression is great. With the new vocalist, Tom Frost, I only can think that it has been a great addition for the band. The songs here sound so crisp and clear for the audience, I can only imagine what a show it was.
But for the mp3 listener, it still has that live flair but still stands out well. Guitarist Steve Rzepka is out of the picture but now replaced with two new guys, Dave Craiglow and Tom Bukowski; who seem to be able to riff and shred with the best. The riffing here is great, hyper speed and heavy. The parts where the drums and bass drop out and it's just the guitar riffing, that's fucking great. Hell, even the bass here can be heard easily, adding with heavy precision to the mix. The drums are fantastic as well, very tight and not missing a beat; from blasting to fast double bass rhythms, it's all done spot on.
Two previously unheard of songs, Boiled in Blood and Infection of Death are done with great enthusiasm. I can only imagine how much fun this was, the crowd can be heard and are loving it. For some reason, when this is heard being played live, I can hear other influences that stick out so much, Obituary, Possessed and Autopsy and a little early classic grind. This is just a heavy live outing and shouldn't be overlooked. If only I could have seen Baphomet live!
