I got hold of this demo back in about 1988. I had no idea where the band came from or who they were. All I knew was that there was a guy called Trey Azagthoth who played in a band called Morbid Angel, who had yet to release an album anyway, so I guessed this was him and his band.
How wrong I was.
I lost my tape of this demo many years ago but upon stumbling upon this page on Metal Archives used a link and managed to download the demo and listen to it for the first time in maybe 20 years.
I also found out that this is actually Shane Embury's (and Pete Giles & Wayne Ashton's) band pre-Unseen Terror & Napalm Death. A big surprise because this sounds WAY ahead of its time.
This is death metal of the highest calibre which sounds almost ahead of its time. It is more technical and more 'metal' than Unseen Terror and sounds like it really should be from the USA. However, a closer listen reveals the UK hardcore scene from which this band was spawned. If I had to sum it up I would say it is a cross between Morbid Angel & Heresy (UK). Really quite extraordinary.
The guitar is heavy and full and the vocals are utterly evil - deep & forboding. The drumming is exceptional (Embury is a class drummer, and this has to be the same kit he used on Human Error).
I cannot recommend this demo enough. use the link on the Metal Archives page to get hold of it. Remember, its a demo so the sound isn't perfect, but its a damned sight better than a lot of demos I've heard.
This is a little known piece of history. Get it. Its free.
