Back in the 80’s with the likes of Marecage, Charter, Black Sun, Titan... and Axton Pryte there was a shy metal scene in France. French bands always went their own way developing a totally unique heavy metal style even when they sang in English. Unfortunately, due to the lack of interest of major companies these bands often disappeared after only one or two productions. For that reason and because vinyls were made in very limited quantities, most of the records are very hard to find even in France. That’s why they are very expensive collectors nowadays.
Axton Pryte came from the Atlantic side of France called Brittany better recognise for its celtic roots than its metalheads. Don’t be deceived by their clothes, they play very energetic and powerful songs. Not a girly glam-rock day cream !
Sometimes it reminds me a kind of mix between early Loudness and Savatage recordings.
“ Suicidal flight ” is a very straightforward song with strong backing vocals in a typical epic style. It's fucking rock in the hard way !
“ Warriors of the wind ”, “ Catch the windblow ” and “ Inquisition ” blow the same inspiration with more complex structures. Heavy metal at its best.
“ Eternal recital ” is a ballad with great harmonies. It reminds me Rainbow’s Dio era.
Claude Ziegler perfectly played here all the guitar parts with very inventive leads.
Despite a clear lack of relief due to a cheap production any heavy metal fan would really enjoy this EP.
