The first thing I noticed when buying the cd was the beautiful artwork. Harbinger Design is the studio that made it. It's bit in the style of the demo-artwork, but a lot better then.
I couldn't wait to hear what avoid stands for. The first song couldn't convince me immediatly. The intro sounds a little odd. But what you hear next is a song that sets the right tone. The song is a little cliche, but that doesn't mean it can't be good.
Next song ( Dark Eyes ) is a lot better. The first riffs are a little In Flames like. Suddenly it switches from fast to mid-tempo. I can't explain why, but the mid-tempo part sounds very good.
The 3rd song is Unleash The Ferocity. From fast riffs to astonishing solo's. It's all in it.
The title track ( Into Languish And Decay ) reminds me of the traditional trash bands. This is one of the slower songs, but it is one of the best ( although that's just a matter of taste ).
The instrumental song ( A thoughtful sadness ) is the only instrumental song I ever liked. Most bands go like this : hey, I have an idea. Let's ask person X to play instrument Y and record it. Then we can use it as instrumental. That's one extra song and we don't even have to do something for it. Avoid did it on their own.
I am Diseased is more of the same, but still sounds very good. Escpecially the last song ( Dying is Dreadful ) has to be mentioned. The chorus of this song is really catchy. You can keep listening to it without getting enough of it.
Avoid is really good in what they're doing. The vocals sounds just like the vocals from Callenish Circle. Jokke ponnete isn't only a very good vocalist, he's also one of the better guitarists I know. As well Nick David ( guitars ), Domien Huyghe ( drums ) and Jan Bogaert ( bass ) are good in what they're doing.
Summarized : With this album Avoid made a good debut album that will never get boring. I'm having the impression that their next album will be released on a bigger label. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Avoid. This is only the beginning of great things to come.
