It is almost wrong to call this band Atheist (despite being the exact same band) because this is a completely different Atheist from "Piece Of Time".
Lets start with the production. Atheist have a clear, spotless sound which allows us to pay attention to every details in their music while R.A.V.A.G.E. on the other hand have a completely different sound and atmosphere to them, but always maintaining that unique, Atheist sound. Even "On They Slay" and "Beyond" (which were used in "Piece Of Time" feel like two completely different songs.
What grabs my attention in this release was the track "Hell Hath No Mercy" which was never used in later releases. I just couldn't let go of the opportunity of listening to this rare gem (well not that rare). I was really surprised that once I heard it it became one of my favorite songs by them. Probably Atheist's most brutal and heavy work while still maintaining a progressive touch to it.
I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is just starting to listen to Atheist, instead I recommend this to Atheist fans like me who are curious about the band's roots. Must-buy to all fans.
