In my mind, this is the only Arnold tribute band that matters. Austrian Death Machine and Goretorture don't hold a candle to these dudes. Okay, let's get down to business....of reviewing this album.
Arnocorps have a really unique sound, a large part of that is the fact that they have two bassists and the music itself is very bass-centric (is that a word? Well, it is now.) and this album has more of a skate punk sound than straight up metal. Not that it really matters because this album is still all that and a bag of chips. Obviously, the lyrics and song names are all based around classic Arnold Schwarzenegger films (well, not all of them are classic. Who the hell remembers Collateral Damage or Sixth Day?) and these guys were the first to do so. Austrian Death Machine and Goretorture came a good bit after. These guys are in the same vein as bands like GWAR, they have a gimmick and have a lot of comedy to their music but at the same time play their music serious enough to where you can still enjoy it regardless of whether or not you find it funny.
The biggest positive I have about this album is how insanely catchy and melodic it is. Songs like Commando, Eraser, End Of Days, Total Recall and Sixth Day stay stuck in my head for a long time afterwards. Everything you'd expect from a punk rock album is here. Gang vocals? Check. Short songs? Check. A simplistic DIY style of playing? Check. Although the production of this is a lot less raw sounding than what you'd expect from a Casualties or Dead Kennedys record. Every instrument shines here, all of them can be heard perfectly. The "low bass" as its called really serves as the foundation for the rest of the bandmates to play on. The drums, like everything else, are really catchy. The guitar riffs as well. There isn't anything technical here. No Malmsteen-esque guitar wankery here. It's all in fun and unapologetically dumb.
I give this a perfect rating because there really aren't any flaws here, if there are any it's nothing that really detracts from the overall experience. It won't hit you deep where you live but why would one expect that from a band about Arnold Schwarzenegger? It's very catchy, memorable and fun. They would start to get more "metal" with their later EPs.
I hope they make at least one more LP before they call it quits for good.
