Technical Uselessness - 20%

hexen, October 16th, 2007

Death metal has now become something mainly pursued for it vigorous technique, undeniably destructible spontaneity and the fact that it ignores the modern mainstream. During the last decade or so, a string of highly dexterous bands have become what is known as Death Metal, bands like Morbid Angel, Vader, Immolation, Deicide and Therion have faded away as their skill doesn't hold on to the newer generation of bands.

Nile, Spawn of Possession, Psycroptic and Necrophagist are a few of those bands, who adhere to technicality and ignore the boundaries set by Morbid Angel and such. Of course, while Psycroptic and Nile have released some decent music within their career, there come bands that exist only to prove that you can always start off with an unwelcome as a demo, hence this material.

Whilst the skill of both members is to be reckoned with, that's only what seems to be impressive about this album. Riffs extracted from the newer legion of pretentious wankery of bands like Necrophagist and Nile, in addition to the structure applied by earlier Thrash bands Metallica and Slayer, and you have this. The vocalist, whilst completely ripping off the Suicmez (Necrophagist) style vocals, manages to rip out something which sounds positive sometime during the demo.

Drums are standard death metal, with some groovy sections since the music itself doesn't spiral like the majority of other bands. Bass is predominant throughout most of the tracks, although there is no real bassist playing here.

It's best to avoid music like this, it's completely unoriginal, without purpose and makes the very concept of Death Metal seem much simpler than what most fans would want.
