Fear Factory fans rejoice! - 75%

Shovel, March 12th, 2004

Well, someone finally decided that Fear Factory's Demanufacture was worthy of worship. Here is Arcadia; Tomas, Demetrio, Edoardo, and Fabio. From the opening track, you can tell that there is majoy Demanufacture worship going on.

The opening drumwork sounds like something straight out of Fear Factory, with the blazing fast bass-drum rhythms, and the pounding, simplistic snare drums. Even the singing is similar to Fear Factory, with a mixture of distorted screams, near-growls, and clean vocals.

The only part of the band that seems to seperate themselves from Fear Factory is the samples. While Fear Factory limited themselves to opening sample and ones that fit in seamlessly with the music, Arcadia seem hellbent on making their samples a distinguishing factor. They also seem to have more interest in guitar solos, although they are usually short lived and uninteresting.

About 2:20 into the song "Behind" you will hear a section that sounds identical to a part in "Smasher/Devourer" (the part where Burton is saying "those of you who dare to stray...").

The opening to "Inner Hate" is pretty cool, with the singer screaming something over and over again (which actually reminds me of the opening to Venom's "Black Metal"), while the drums and guitar appear and disappear in rythmic spurts.

All in all, if you are a fan of Fear Factory's glory years, you'll like this album. Even if they are boring live (which, trust me, they are), they still deserve some credit for some good old industrial metal.
