Recorded in the vocalists garage, and it shows. The sound of this demo is atrocious. With that fact aside, you should know that the rest of the album, is also an abomination. The drums are plain and the riffs are very boring. A lot of the time the band will stop playing so that the guitar player can record feedback for 45 seconds, or maybe just pluck one undistorted guitar string every 10 seconds for about a minute, then get back to actually trying to play music. There are 2 vocalists in Anubis Rising, one has a high pitch voice, the other a low growl, and they both have a range of aproximately 5 notes, making the vocals very very dull. Here's an example:
On the 3rd song Boiling Pot, after the one minute intro where nothing happens, a slow clean guitar part comes in playing (about 8) alternating notes back and forth (very boring droning notes i might add). After a while the guitar changes and just chugs along, where the 1st vocalist roars a few things, then the other vocalist screams some things within his limited vocal range, and then back to the 8 alternating notes, and so on. This song is nearly 5 minutes long, and shouldnt have lasted longer that 12 seconds.
Calling this band melodic death metal is an overstatement, as represented on this demo. There isnt anything going on. If you think you would like to try out Anubis Rising, dont. I have no idea what their other demos sound like, but judging from the musicianship put forth on this album, I would recommend that you avoid Anubis Rising.
