Antivenom - Sacred Funeral - 70%

Two bands from the more underground christian black metal realm wanted to create an oldschool black metal album with a punkish vibe. The one man band Armath Sargon from Finland together with the members of White Funeral/Lunar Invasion joined forces together to make this assault on your soul. Since the lyrics of this album are mostly focused on exorcism and spiritual battles. Even the back cover of the cd says: Satan & Demon advisory Exorcism lyrics.

This album has oldschool like riffs of early Darkthrone and the rhythms and vibe of underground punk black metal band Bone Awl. The raw acoustic drumming compliments the music very well. Though is sometimes not precisely timed. The track 'Death Angel' has the most punkish vibe on this album with typical punk guitar riffing and drumming. Which makes the song more punk than black metal. Shadows Fade, my favourite song on this album, has the most atmospheric riffing on this album. Which brought my mind directly back to Transilvanian Hunger. Even the guitar tone sounds as Transilvanian Hunger. The whole album has this kind of riffing. They have succeeded in making a good mixture of oldschool and punk black metal. Though after some songs, it loses a bit it's attraction but the last two songs make it up with that.

Last thing, if you didn't know you wouldn't say it but the vocals are done by a woman. They are harsh rasps invoking the apocalypse of your soul. Hopefully the apocalypse hasn't ended yet because this album calls for more. If there comes a second album and the music is a bit more thought-through it can become something great.
