I found a copy of Anihilated's last album, "The Ultimate Desecration" on LP in a second hand shop about a year ago, and they've been my favourite band ever since! I had always been a fan of Slayer's early stuff, so Anihilated really apealed to me, that's not to say they're another Slayer clone. I searched ebay and finally found copies of Path To Destruction and Created In Hate (which I'm reviewing now). I put Created In Hate on and was pleased with what I heard. From the double-bass drum intro of "Chase The Dragon" through to the fading outro of "Seventh Vial" I enjoyed every minute of it. The first thing I did notice however was the bad production of the whole thing. The guitars sounded very tinny and the vocals sounded very plain the way it was all mixed, but I didn't let this get in the way of the music. It's not the most original album ever, featuring many parts which will remind you of Slayer's "Hell Awaits" (especially the solos), but then again, the majority of the album has a lot of individuality to it. Another aspect of the album I liked was the fact they hadn't gone into thrash's typical lyric subjects, ie. satanism and the like. The majority of the lyrics are anti-war based (very punk indeed!). A sound which lyrics stood out for me was "Slaughter", which is against needless killing of animals (never would of guessed from the title, eh?).
In conclusion, I give it 8/10. I think if the band had a better label behind there backs and Stephen Beatty hadn't produced it for them, Created In Hate would've kicked South Of Heaven right in the ass!!!!!!! I look forward to a CD version! If you can get a copy of this, don't let it go!!!!
