Angel Negro - Sala 8

Angel Negro - Sala 8 (1994) - 87%

Unsilent_Storms, October 12th, 2006

Sala 8 was Angel Negros first demo, it consists of six songs all in spanish, native tongue of these Colombians from the city of Cali. The demo is very death metal oriented in that the vocals are harsh and low, there are guitar riffs and drumming patterns that are clearly death metal, more in the vein of an old school style, not the mahcine gun drumming and intricate guitar riffs present in todays death metal.

To this simple yet well constructed death metal there are plenty of tempo and rythem changes, enough to keep the interest of the listener. The band efectivly knows when to place guitar solos which are really well played. The musicanship is not genius like, but it is competent, maybe the production could have made the drum stand out a little more, the snare sounds kind of muffled, but considering it is only a demo, it is more than acceptable.

The title track, “Sala 8” and “Edicion Fria” are the better tracks, I really enjoyed the little guitar intro on “Sala 8”, the scream that follows was pretty cool as well. The rest of the songs dont sound all that different from each other, a good mix of classic heavy metal with death metal would be the best way to describe the over all sound.

The demo is unique in that the album that came after this “Guillian Barre” has a very different sound, unfortunatly the rawness and originality is lost and is in no way superior to “Sala 8”.
