Evil Prevails...

Belgium's Ancient Rites released their first vinyl in 1992, "Evil Prevails". I truly love it´s sounds still this day. From the mystifying intro "Göttendammerung" to breath-taking metal attack "Longing for the Ancient Kingdom" and from the darkly lovely "Evil Prevails" to Venom-influenced heavy metal track "Black Plague".

You can clearly hear the Venom influences in the last track. Otherwise it´s pure Ancient Rites, developed from their early demo phase into more dark and evil direction, but still very primitive compared to their debut album that came two years later. Gunther's vocals vary from evil monster tone to hideous whispers and his voice is still one of the most unique in the whole scene.

I recommend this EP to all old school heavy/black metal lovers. It's really rare nowadays, with awesome cover arts and old school inlay. If you have this vinyl, consider yourself lucky and remember to honor it occasionally by listening it through. METAL!
