This is not the first time I listen to this band, in fact I know something about their previous releases and every one of them is really amazing; with Aztec War Metal this Mexican warriors have consolidated their career. I’m really surprised the way Mexican scene is growing up and having more bands like this, seriously I want this review to be a kind of call to the worldwide metal scene because my country is producing amazing albums by professional and well trained bands. Alfa Eridiano Akhernar is the kind of bands that immediately catch you, the reason is more than obvious: they play death metal at its finest.
Basically I had a clear idea about what I was going to listen, I mean they play intense death metal and the main essence of the band is the velocity and power they play with. Aztec War Metal is their latest production and one may think that this is a band playing with exotic instruments or using an ancient cultures concept but this is not the case, this album features the most extreme and blasting music form created lately in Mexico. The style is death metal with a high portion of brutality and fastness, I really never noticed any other hint from other style like black metal for example. All is perfect and precise about this album because every instrument was perfectly recorded and that’s why one of my first positive impressions was about the perfect sound and production, like a well done homework, once the recording qualities were approved by my ears I paid attention to the music, rare analysis by the way.
The fast way this album is executed impressed me since the first minute and in my opinion they play fast and technical at the same time, both drums and guitars are all the time in perfect synchrony, guitars are more than precise, every riff and every solo are all the time devastating endlessly and don’t forget the bass guitar which along with drums creates a powerful sound. The only time I felt a moment of calm was in the guitar solos, the rest of the time is pure merciless death metal. There’s an special touch surrounding Aztec War Metal and is the fact that keyboards were used, in fact there’s a permanent member playing them, I know is not usual nowadays when playing death metal but this band just had a great idea adding different sounds, of course keyboards are used without exaggeration; thumps up for that incredible aura created.
This album is amazing from beginning to end and I´m very satisfied with sound, style, production and the total death metal atmosphere featured. The half hour seems not enough and at least I stayed with a hungry sensation and I felt I needed more of the crushing sounds, more war feelings and more of this genuine metal music. Would be hard to choose a favorite song but if I wanted to introduce you to this band I would recommend Aztec War Metal and Defending Our Glorious Presence. Highly recommended album.
