Staring at the divine... - 75%

NocturnalSilence, November 6th, 2004

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from my first listen of Alabama Thunderpussy, but they turned out to be pretty good. What you get pretty much for the whole album is midpaced upbeat sludgy rockers, except at the end, which is a pretty cool country type of song.

When they aren’t upbeat, the songs slow down and are pretty atmospheric, but this doesn’t happen too much. The guitars are pretty distorted and heavy, the vocals are surprisingly pretty melodic at times. The drums don’t really stand out as anything totally different, but they have enough interesting patterns so all the songs won’t sound like they have the same beat. The production is perfect.

The album is great because all the songs flow together well, and they stick in your head afterwards, which could be bad thing I guess, as they won’t get out of your head. Get this if you like stuff like Down or Acid Bath.
