Once again I have the honour to present thee a release of Al Goregrind, this time it's the "Pink" EP, first unleashed upon mankind in 2012. Formed in 2011 under the name Babykiller, Al Goregrind have dumped a fair share of bedroom goregrind/brutal death metal onto their Bandcamp page. While their main theme on the newer stuff is the Star Wars lore, their early stuff was a failed attempt at doing gore and sex jokes and their musical evolution kinda followed that theme, climaxing in the actually quite decent album "The Temple Is Burning" (2019). Too bad I picked one of their early releases...
Whoever had the idea to write, record and release this EP should be locked up in a room and forced to listen to this abomination for at least a week. Seriously, there's nothing of value in this piece of madness... eh, okay, I gotta be honest. There's one riff in "He-Man vs. Shemale" that is somewhat enjoyable, the rest is a nonsensical mix of bedroom goregrind, some chugging, a few brutal death metal influences and the completely random electro pop track "Partycock" right at the start. That opener is actually the best thing this EP has to offer. The groove is pretty neat, the electronics interesting and even the porn lyrics aren't as bad as usual. After that: pure madness.
The band is constantly throwing ideas at the wall, sometimes providing basic, lazy riffs, sometimes some grindy rage, some heavy breakdowns or even some groovy pornogrindy stuff. None of which have any redeeming factors and are either the most generic stuff you heard all day or, even worse, written, performed and produced without any effort or skill put into it. Be it the out-of-tune guitars that miss more notes than they hit or the hyperactive, monotonous drum machine or the nonexistent bass. And that seems to be exactly what they are aiming for for whatever reason. At least I assume they are by judging from the random yelling, the improvised pig squeals, the gurgly wanna-be growls that sound like a hoarse gorilla or the actual monkey imitations that make up the vocal side of the record.
"Pink" combines everything I hate about goregrind into one giant pile of shit. This is the epitome of a band that cares more about a few lols and giggles than writing music that holds your interest for more than one second and the two okay-ish parts mentioned above. This release shows a meme, not a band. Good thing they changed a little over time and went away from... whatever this is supposed to be. Well...at least it's short.
