Blessing Abyssus with Perversion - 75%

Written based on this version: 2016, Cassette, Old Skull Productions (Limited edition)

It’s been three and a half years since Blessed by Perversion returned with new material (their cover of Death‘s Leprosy from 2013 doesn’t really count), and in two months they would release their debut record Between Roots and Darkness. But for now, they signed with a small Hungarian record label by the name of Old Skull Productions, being in a split with a fellow Greek band Abyssus. Compared to Bleed for Perversion’s short but lengthy material, Abyssus rather possess a quantity of EPs and splits with different bands.

Starting with Abyssus, they sound much more old school than one would expect. Maybe more thrash-influenced along with their death metal music, or it’s the hardcore-ish vocals that makes a distinguishable difference. I’m not a fan of said vocal style, but the music is pretty good. It’s moderately fast, from the guitars and bass to the drums, until the song ends with an atmospheric guitar melody. As for Blessed by Perversion, there’s barely any Deicide influence that scratches the surface, and that’s excellent. Their song is raw, the vocals are brutal, and there’s more focus on blast beats and guitar melodies, which overall is a direction to original sound.
