Abske Fides - ...Apart of the World

...denying life, living for nothing... - 90%

marcelorissi, March 16th, 2008

"...denying life, living for nothing..." No words could define better this EP...

Abske Fides (latin name, which means "faithless") came to life (death???) in 2003, with the purpose of spreading pure hatred, solitude, misanthropy and all kind of negativity through music.

They started out with a misanthropic black metal catch, in the veins of Burzum. In '04, they released their first demo tape "illness".

Later on, the band changed its approach into a more funeral doom metal direction and, in '06, Abske Fides arose from the depths once again in order to spread their second musical stuff entitled "...apart of the world".

I know doom metal scene is usually neglected, even by metal fans, but what can you expect when you turn on a doom metal album? Well, if you're trying something fast, happy, head-banging, shaking-ground, fist-in-the-face, then you're reading the review of the wrong band...

On the other hand, if you find it interesting when music explores all what is negative, adding drops of sorrow, solitude, sadness, misanthropy, grief, delusion, hopelessly (check the name of the second song) and the likes, then you'll get it right if you listen to this EP.

From the beggining 'til the end, you'll be trapped into a excessively slow catch, mixed with desolated riffs, in the veins of Worship's "last vinyl before doomsday" and Evoken's "Quietus" (only to mention some).

You'll feel like getting deep into a pit or ready to jump any abyss... This might a bit theatrical, but what can I do? that's the way their music sounds like and I'm sure this is exactly what is painted in everyone's mind while listening to this piece.

The introduction track "Post Morttum", an instrumental one, feels like really cold and gloomy. The tenebrous keyboards prepares the listener for the imminent doom that is about to come.

The following songs "Hopelles drowned in silence" and "Creep of the last human" brings all the impressions and feelings that a funeral doom metal catch is supposed to: darkness, sadness, conflict, confusion, suicidal will and so one... It's so hard to listen to this masterpiece without being reminded of the above mentioned bands...

The vocals fits perfectly to the depressed instrumental, varying from harsh to gutural, and sometimes doing duets, adding drops of anger and wrath to the music of Abske Fides... Nice job from K. (vocals).

"the chaotic existence creeps with no destiny at the greatness", a verse from the last song, define properly what the listener will take from this EP.

Highly reccomended for the fans of the genre...
