...Aaaarrghh... - Ruhlar Fısıldıyor

Basic - 65%

Acherontic, April 26th, 2007

Interestingly done, but hardly worth buying. This duo knows what they're doing, but that's the problem -- not a lot of innovation. If you're one of the recent converts to the legions of black metal, then take a listen. Other than that, you probably won't like it.

Fortunately, all the songs are short and thus you probably won't die of boredom.
They all seem to use the same song structure:
1. blast beats (nothing new, they're the same as every other band out there),
2. synths (aaarrghh seems to use the same one in every track),
3. raspy vocals (more reminiscent of Graveland than Cradle of Filth, thankfully. But since the vocals are in Turkish, I doubt a lot of people are going to understand them)
4. riffs (somewhat original, but very basic and repetitive).

There's a good section of "Sinsi Karanli" that ends all too quickly, and the first track is worth listening to.
A short part of "Karanligin Ilahileri" is pretty good, it has a Carpathian Forest-type rock feel to it (and an actual rythym besides blast beats!), but like all good things it comes to end.
There's almost a solo in the last track... I say 'almost' because it's too damn slow. And about 3 seconds long.

Really, though, most of the tracks have the same opening sequence. It gets boring after awhile. Aaaarrghh sounds good at first, but because they lack innovation and high levels of creativity it gets boring (about 3-4 songs in).

What I like is that every song is free. It shows that these two aren't out to make money... like most shit bands out there.

My conclusion is that you should listen to it if you like Black Metal, but this is the prototypical melodic metal that gets boring easily.

I've had experiences before where I just HAD to check out an album because of its album cover, lyrical themes, or even stupid name (which in this case takes the win), and ...Aaargghyhhgh..asf.. or whatever takes the win out of these wretched situational blasphemies.

I was one of the few who actually bought the album, because I listened to the first mp3 on their site. It was great, nice and atmospheric with a heavier black metal style. The riffs were nice and evil-sounding, the drums were somewhat impressive , and the mid-interuptions with the wolves howling in the rain and stuff helped set up a really cool atmosphere.

Alright, then came the dumbass...ness of which I performed...

Here are the steps to perform a really dumb way of buying a CD:

1. listen to one mp3.

2. buy the album.

With my case, the band name was just too much, the song sounded good, and like
I said earlier, I said "what the hell" and got it. DONT DO THIS.

This album was fucking terrible. Flat-out some of the boringest black metal I've ever heard. The riffs on most of the songs stayed the same for two minutes or so, then struck down into only the guitar playing a new riff (which also made me cry of boredom) broke out, then the drums would come in. If the band played with slightly different vocals and little bit lesser productional valuatively, I could easily state them as being a "Turkish Nu-metal band", and that's not something you hear everyday.

Hey, neither is ...Aaaarrghh.... . The name was probably picked just so people would commit the stupid act above (See "How Perform Buying a CD in a Really Dumb Way", above) .

If you really want to hear this band just because of the stupid name, download the first song from their offical site. You might want to try out track 4 as well, as it was really rather interesting too.

Don't buy it, it sucks.

Great Stuff, If You Can Look Past the Name - 88%

Let me start by saying that the only reason I decided to check out this band was because the band name is so dumb that I just had to hear what this band sounded like. However, upon listening to this album, I was pleasantly surprised. Despite, being named after a grunting noise, this band is a fairly impressive black metal outfit.

This Turkish duo play melodic, speed driven, black metal that bears some resemblance to old school Darkthrone. Rythmically, the music is mostly fast paced and rarely strays far from the all thrash/blast beats mentality. However, the band switches it up just enough to keep from being monotonous, and since most of the songs are pretty short, the album doesn't get tiresome.

Riff wise, this band churns out a seemingly endless supply of fast, melodic, riffs. Even though the guitars rarely slow down, all the riffs flow nicely into one another. Bass is very present on this album, but doesn't really stand out, but provides the right amount of bottom end. The vocals on this album are a kind hushed, raspy, black metal whisper, which is different from many black metal bands since the vocals are not overpowering. However, all the lyrics are in Turkish, so most people wont have a clue what this band is saying. Atmosphere is provided to the album via occasional nature sound samples and sparse keyboards.

While ...Aaaarrghh... may not be braking any new ground they are still a goo black metal act and are certainly worth a listen. After all, this entire album is free for download of thier website, so what do you have to lose.
