Туман - Loquitur Cum Alqo Sathanas

Continuation of evil - 78%

Taliesin, July 9th, 2010

I was a big fan of Tuman's previous album Transylvanian Dreams for it had created a great black metal atmosphere draped in their Hungarian landscape. On this album they haven't changed too much, and the essential sound is the same, but there is a bit more of a different atmosphere here that is hard to place.

The production is a bit better then their previous recordings, ecerything is audible. The guitars are a thin treble blast, kind of got a metal trash can tone like old Satyricon or Darkthrone's album A Blaze In The Northern Sky. Drums are distant with many cymbal hits, but asides from those its pretty minimalist. Vocals are a raw scream of passion.

Songwriting is pretty simple, yet still effective, however I don't find myself enjoying this as much as their older material. Maybe because where Transylvanian Dreams felt like a new classic black metal with a distinct feeling and approach, this album feels more confined and less expansive on ideas. In essence what this means for this album is constant blasting drums, melodic of abstract riffs played tremelo and any tempo changes are restricted to the beginning or ending of a song. Many of the riffs are good however and moments on here have the power to draw the listener in, but the samey feeling washes over the listener the deeper into the album you go.

Despite any reservations, this is still a solid recording a worth a listen if you are a fan of Tuman.
