Description

Label founded in 1965 in Montreal by Jack Lazare (president) and his brother Daniel (artistic director). Gamma devoted itself particularly to Quebec performers and chansonniers, among them Christine Charbonneau, Robert Charlebois, Clémence Desrochers, Georges Dor, Louise Forestier, Claude Gauthier, Pauline Julien, Georges Langford, Tex Lecor, Raymond Lévesque, Monique Miville-Deschênes, Claire Syril, and, later, Lucien Francoeur, Claude Légaré, Francine McGee, Ovila, and Nathalie Suzanne.

In 1969, Gamma established itself in Paris, thus giving several of its artists exposure in France and in other European countries. Its recordings, distributed in Europe until that time by Barclay, appeared on a new Gamma International label.

In 1978, the Société SFPP took over the distribution under the Gamma France label. By 1979, Gamma had produced nearly 150 LPs. Its activities were somewhat reduced after 1980.
