German subdivision of EMI Records from 1972 to 2002 and responsible holding company of the EMI Electrola trademark/label. It also operated recording and mastering studios as well as a vinyl pressing plant until 1993.
EMI Electrola handled many labels, the most well-known being EMI, Harvest, Apple, Motown, Tamla Motown, Immediate, United Artists (UA), Liberty, Bell, Capitol and Arista. Lesser known labels included Electrola, Spin, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Private Stock, Welt-Rekord, RAK, Odeon, Rocket Record Company, His Master's Voice and Papagayo among others.
2000-2002 were years of reorganisation within the German EMI companies. EMI Electrola GmbH & Co. KG merged with the Virgin Schallplatten GmbH & Co. KG and formed EMI Music Germany GmbH & Co. KG.
