Cargo Records was an independent record label and distributor based in Montreal, Canada and was founded in 1987 by Eric Goodis, Randy Boyd and Phillip Hill, who were former staffers at Bonaparte Records, an independent record store in Montreal. Boyd was also formerly a partner in the short-lived punk label Psyche Industry Records. Cargo Records focused on rock, punk and metal.

The label was largely successful in the Canadian market and eventually established offices in the US (Cargo Music/Cargo Records America, Inc.), the UK (Cargo Records UK), and Germany (Cargo Records Germany). In 1995, however, the company's operations began to falter until the Canadian office filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 19, 1997.

Due to some previous ownership changes, the bankruptcy of the parent company did not affect the operations in its foreign offices. The two European offices operate primarily as distributors or distributor/labels. They're cooperative, yet otherwise independent from one another.

Some of its sub-labels were/are Into Records (UK), Livewire Records (UK), Very Friendly Records (Can), We Deliver the Guts Records (Ger), Blackest Ever Black Records (UK),
