Late 1990 Roberto Mammarella (Monumentum) founded an amateur-ish label called Obscure Plasma Records based in the Vanzago, Milano area. After 12 releases (mostly 7" singles) from 1991 to 1993, the label became more professional and was renamed Avantgarde Music in 1994.
In 1996, the company overtook their sub-label Wounded Love Records (founded 1992) and expanded (more people involved, opening a record store in Milano). They became one of the leading metal labels in Italy, releasing bands like Behemoth, Carpathian Forest, Dark Sanctuary, Katatonia, Mayhem, Opera IX, Shining, and Taake, amongst many others.
In 2011, the label opened its musical direction towards pop-rock (restarting at cat# AV 201).
