Everything that is connected with tabs must go here. This means that the thread is to be used for questions, requests and tab discussion.

Guitar Pro 5 is the BEST for tabs - nothing beats it. It's a shame that www.mysongbook.com was shut down but there are lots of GP tabs at www.ultimate-guitar.com among other sites.

I have all the tabs from mysongbook in a ZIP file.
I'm going to upload it if you don't mind :)

I love GP. I've been using it for a long time now and it helps A LOT! For playing and for scoring your own things. It was a major bummer when mysongbook.com folded but I'm hoping that they'll reopen again eventually. And that would be great if you uploaded it, Cleusky.

Powertabs.net made it through, so I'm pretty sure that mysongbook will.

Anyhow, are you done uploading those tabs yet??

If you want a good tab site go to www.911tabs.com , it links to many different tab sites and has regular guitar and bass tabs as well as GP and i think Powertabs as well. The disadvantage is that often you get the same tab from different sites, but its good that you only have to check one site to see if there's a tab for the song you're looking for.

Also, I have guitar pro 4 but have never tried guitar pro 5, is there a big difference between the two?

Yes. There's a HUGE difference betweem them. The biggest being the newly added RSE (Real Sound Engine) which can give the tab a realistic sound instead of the normal MIDI sound. It's great but I wish they added a feature to convert it to mp3.

Oh, does anyone know of any good tabbed songs that would be good for practicing arpeggios? The only one that I've got is Katatonia's Brave.

Are there any other cool features apart from the better sound quality? MIDI does suck, but I don't really care enough to buy the new version as I'm kinda broke at the moment.

I dunno if this is the place, but I need some easy metal bass tabs. I dont care really bands or genres, just something easy to practice. I'm only playing for a couple of weeks now and my teacher always gives me blusey bass lines to practice, which is cool but gets old and boring really quickly since its not really the style I wanna play. So if anyone can link me to cool bass tabs for starters, it'd be great.

The tab at metaltabs.com gives some clue of the song, though I feel there's a few slight fuck-ups here and there. Nothing so bad you couldn't correct with a little listening, though.

What tuning does Matt Pike use on High on Fire's "Surrounded by Thieves"? I'm thinking about doing a tab for "The Yeti", which is of course, riff-tastic.

Anybody know what this is? I'm not good with harmonies but this is the main line in the beginning. I might do a full tab for this, but I might wait till I get my speed script filled so I can really be as accurate as possible. Enjoy the tease :)

Code:
Eb|------------------------------|
Bb|------------------------------|
Gb|---------------------7--------|
Db|-2-2--2--2--2----6-5---6-5-6--|
Ab|-2-2--2--2--2--7--------------|
Eb|-0-0--0--0--0-----------------|

Eb|----------------------------|
Bb|----------------------------|
Gb|----------------------------|
Db|22222-3--2------8-----------|
Ab|22222-3--2--7-6---7~--------|
Eb|00000-1--0------------------|

What about stickying this thread and making it the only one for tabs, as stated in the first post ?

So I figured out the tuning for that High on Fire track album/track. It's standard C(-45). Here's the beginning, this one will be easier than the other one I posted (which nobody has recognized yet!)

Code:
C |--------------------
G |--------------------
D#|--------------------
A#|--------------------
F |-2-5-8--9--9--8-5---
C |-0-3-6--7--7--6-3---

C |-------------------------------------------
G |-------------------------------------------
D#|-------------------------------------------
A#|-------------------------------------------
F |-2-5-5-8-8-9-8-11-11-12-14-12-11-----------
C |-0-3-3-6-6-7-6-9 -9 -10-12-10-9(tr 10)-----

Well there is a Sepultura Tab Book for the Arise album which features a very accurate tab (atleast in my mind) of Desperate Cry. The scanned pdf of this book is floating around various guitar dc++ hubs.

911tabs.com is a good site for tabs, you guys should try looking up stuff there, also, for guitar pro tabs, mysongbook is no longer functioning but you could also look up guitarpro tabs in 911tabs.com

steve vai's "eugenes trick bag" its deceptively easy . a common misconception is that the intro is sweeped. its actualy alternate picked. this is the song that got me good at guitar . i didnt bother with tabs. just slow in down in media player and because theres no other instruments its uber easy to get the notes exactly right. its in concert pitch . aslong as you use the alternate picking and the one finger per fret rule youll manage it pretty easy

Ha! Without dissing you or the band or intending to be rude/sarcastic, good luck with that. I'm not even sure if the respective band members remember their solos, especially on that album, because they're so improvised, which isn't so bad, but add on that they're played with a fair degree of sloppiness at best, I don't think anybody is really going to bother. Now with that out of the way, I think that the riffs are plenty enough for their songs, and I'd recommend trying to play your own solos, even if you use the original as a loose guideline. Even if you think you can't, try anyways, chances are over time it will benifit you greatly. When I try to play a solo, I almost never use the original, because I'm not really good at sight reading relatively quick and/or complicated guitar solos, and even when I get to that level I probably won't. That's just a personal thing with me though. If I try to play the original solo, I'm not happy unless it sounds exactly like I hear it on the record. That being said, I'm mostly a rhythm player until I get lessons or get some sort of useful instruction from somebody that can solo. The whole "make your own solo/use your ears" thing is done to death by snotty twats, so I don't intend that connotation when I say it. I'm not demanding you do it, I'm just suggesting that you try it out, for reasons already stated.

I noticed most times in tabs , they dont have solos and i was wondering if anyone here had a solo to some of Kreator's pleasure to kill songs?

I'm not demanding you do it, I'm just suggesting that you try it out, for reasons already stated.

yea i'll try it out , i guess thanks for the 2 cents

That's what I'm here for. Give it some time though. If you really try to apply yourself and parallel that approach with learning scales and a some basic theory, you'll probably find it to your liking. You can just start out by learning common patterns even. Another thing that will help keep you above water is, when available, looking at the solo for the song you want to learn, maybe learn specific parts you like, and then interspersing your own stuff in between. That's actually a much better point than I thought it was when I was writing it actually, and something I do when I take the aforementioned approach. That's pretty much the only approach I really take to metal soloing, as I find more freedom in blues-based soloing than metal. That's just me though, I think it boils down to the differences in approach and the emotions being expressed. But yeah, working off of something you think already sounds good or works for the song ensures you won't be left out in the cold entirely, and definitely helps in giving your efforts some structure until you get more comfortable and adventurous. And if all else fails, just play cat-in-a-blender style like Slayer (specifically King), people seem to like that :p

On a side note, my output would always be this courteous and constructive if it wasn't for the rampant dumbfuckery plaguing all the forums. Even aside from that, when I do take this approach I'm probably one of the very few that ever does it at all. That makes me a sad panda.

Would any experienced GuitarPro 5 user be able to critique a tab I made for She Painted Fire Across the Skyline by Agalloch? I'm sure that a majority of the song is correct. The only problems I made would be the positions of riffs and the solo. If someone could help me out it would be much appreciated.
