Awesome band, even though they can get bit pretentious sometimes. Nice bass work.

Sounds really good.

I dismissed this band around the first album, because it felt very directionless and wanky during a time when mediocre tech death groups like Brain Drill were everwhere, and I kind of lumped them in with the same camp. After hearing the singles above, though, I put Earthborn Evolution on Spotify and am really enjoying the album. Things seem to have improved radically on this album vs. the first one from what I remember - very solid tech death that doesn't forget the songwriting aspect.

Funny that you understand the band that way when it's actually the other way around! :D

The Aura was and will always be the band's apex, judging from those advance singles. While Earthborn Evolution showcased more melodic and atmospheric elements these new songs go full blown on that respect. It seems to me like they're trying too much to emulate Cynic while still retaining their style, and it's not like it isn't good, I just find the lack of intensity a bit sad. Hell, I've been spinning Brought by Pain's debut album, which is a side project from BC members, and it has more balls and intensity than anything BC did past The Aura.

If they end up mellowing down like on the title track throughout the entire album I'll begin to wonder if they're also adding a saxophone to their tunes... :oh shit:
