The Slow Death (somewhere between funeral doom and death/doom with male grunts and female cleans)

This is what you're looking for.

And if any of you decide you want some very obscure epic/heavy doom metal.

Can you put links to the albums? For some reason I can't see embeds. :)

I'm very new to the doom scene, but I'm looking for something depressing and forlorn such as Turn Loose the Swans. Any help?

I always felt Antimatter "Leaving Eden" album and "Planetary Confinement" are both quite depressing.

It's not exactly the same stylistically but listen to Thergothon's only full-length. It has forlornness and despair aplenty. Thing is you might want to expand your knowledge by hearing several different bands playing variations of the so called "extreme doom" and after that you will learn from experience what kind of style suits your personal taste the best. After that recommending more similar bands to you becomes easier for us.

Welcome to doom metal, the realm of everything depressing and forlorn!

If you haven't yet, listen to all MDB discography. Some mediocre songs now and then, some whimpy, some cheesy stuff, but all in all, a very noble merchant of doom.

If you're looking for something with melodies, check out Morgion/ Solinari and Mourning Beloveth/ The Sullen Sulcus

Soulseek is still around? Had no idea, thought it had died off years ago. I wonder if DC++ is still being used by people.

Any "d-list" // weird sludge recommendations? I know most of the, uh, big names? in it. I'm looking for stuff like the following:

Nightstick (Weymouth, Mass)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwfkSy8CNVg

3D House of Beef (Seattle, other places)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SmxIVJGOtg

I hope that you all enjoy these few bands that I discovered; a majority of these bands are rather traditional doom metal, with the exception of a couple who intertwine various musical elements, and metal sub-genres, e.g. death metal, punk, et cetera.

1. The Sabbathian is a traditional doom metal band containing musicians from North Carolina, and the vocalist being from Norway. The band has only one EP released thus far, titled, Ritual Rites, which is a well-composed, albeit brief, output of traditional doom metal, adorned with compelling guitar riffs, and a mesmerizing vocal performance by Anette Uvaas Gulbrandsen. Ritual Rites can be sampled on their Bandcamp web-page.

2. Alastor is traditional doom metal band from Sweden with two EPs released thus far: Black Magic, and Blood on Satan's Claw. Alastor is identified as "psychedelic doom metal" on their Metal Archives profile web-page, however, the band sounds akin to a traditional doom metal band, 'ala Saint Vitus, but with a 1970s-inspired occult vibe; predominantly heard through the song's composition structures, and more-so through the band's vocal performance. You can sample Alastor's two EPs on their Bandcamp web-page.

3. I absolutely love this band; Wizard Union is a predominantly doom metal band from Michigan that intertwines gritty punk, and (more recently) death metal influences in their rather unique approach towards composing doom metal. They have three EPs released so far: Smoking Coffins, Phantom Fury, and Ceremonial Smoke, with each release sounding slightly different from one another. Smoking Coffins is very much in the traditional doom metal vein, with a hefty amount of Electric Wizard, and Black Sabbath inspirations. Conversely, Phantom Fury is heavily crust-inspired, with the musicianship sounding a bit more aggressive, and up-tempo, i.e. redolent of Saint Vitus' more faster tempo songs. Lastly, Ceremonial Smoke returns slightly to the stylistic influences heard throughout Smoking Coffins, except with death metal-inspired growls sung, and the guitar riffs sounding slightly more down-tuned, and abrasive. Wizard Union's material can be sampled on their Bandcamp web-page.

4. Battle Hag is a death metal-inspired doom metal band from Sacramento, California, having released one demo tape, and a full-length album titled, Tongue of the Earth. Each guitar riff sounds absolutely monolithic in conjunction with the percussion heard throughout the latter release. Augmenting the band's ominous, "ritualistic" musicianship, Battle Hag employs a deep, and guttural vocal style that sounds reminiscent of Thergothon, and Mournful Congregation. Each song stands on its own throughout their full-length album, creating a memorable listen. Battle Hag's material can be sampled here.

I am trying to remeber a stoner rock/doom band from some place in Europe.
Romania, sloavkia, slovenia
Something like that, and it had one word in the name.

Listened to this years ago, and I remember I loved it but now I can't remember the name :/

EDIT: Yay, I managed to track down the band!

I'ts called: Umor

Finally listened to Smoulder. They do actually rule! Warrioresque female vocals and sledgehammer riffing.

Hey everybody.

I'm trying to find more bands similar to Cough, Windband, The Funeral Orchestra, Boris, Coffinworm , and Black Tomb in terms of guitar tone and pacing. I want the thickest fuzz sound possible but I'm not seeking out ultra slow funeral doom/pure drone stuff.

Thanks

Greetings and Salutations!

I'm looking for Doom metal with a lot of influence from folk music. A "Pagan Doom" if such thing exists :)

Recently i found Gods Tower and i'm looking for more music in that vein.
Even if the genre is not the same the slower songs on Temnozor's second album (Folkstorm..) could be a reference point

Than you!

Hey guys, been getting heavily into mid to fast paced trad & epic doom metal like Iron Void, Church of Void, The Gates of Slumber and Forsaken. Can anyone recommend some lesser known doom metal bands with heavy riffing, similar to these bands? Just trad & epic, no sludge or too stoner please. Here's some perfect examples:

The 'lesser know' part of your request is kind of difficult to meet as trad doom isn't the most talked-about style... I hope you'll still find some new interesting stuff in these, it's a mix of old and new:

Cardinals Folly

Wow! Thanks Morphine1873!! So far, the best that's clicked with me is the new Cadinal's Folly, and about half of the first Internal Void. The artwork and imagery of the Inquisition, witchfinder generals, and Lovecraft all work great for doom. Seems like I enjoy both the Maryland scene and the Finnish scene of Doom. I'll keep giving the others a chance but the new Iron Void is kicking my ass hard. And I came across Godthrymm, their debut e.p. is badass!

Alms from Baltimore played a set at a show I attended last night, and immediately caught my attention. I've listened to their debut a few times through now, and it's really, really great stuff. Fantastic 70s-ish doom with killer riffs, great guitar harmonies, big rumbling bass lines, tasty keyboards, and cool weird echoey vocals.

Check them out! Best song is probably For Shame, but they're all good.

I am looking for something similar to primitive man's album Caustic. You know, the crushing and heavy tone combined with the oppressing and miasmatic atmosphere.
I am familiar with the usual suspects, namely the Louisiana scene, from Acid Bath to Eyehategod and it's not exactly what I am searching for. It needs to be cavernous and maybe remarkably blackened sludge.
Any suggestions? Thanks you all!

Not 'proper Doom' perhaps but if you've not listened to Thou or The Body it might scratch that itch...

I know The Body, less familiar with Thou though. From what I heard in the embedded track, it seems something pretty close to what I am after.
Thank you! Any other?

I've really been digging Ex People's first EP, Loss. I like how they have that really cold, raw tone and eerie clean vocals. I'm trying to find trad and/or stoner doom bands who pull off the same combination of very raw, mechanical sounding guitars and haunting clean vocals. Two other bands who I think pulled off the style well would be The River and Serpentcult. No occult or psychedelic themes, just very raw guitars, clean vocals, and an inhumane, detached atmosphere. Almost lo-fi sounding.

I would like to hear more bands like this. I am incredibly well versed in the many psych/stoner doom bands with female cleans that have become popular in the past few years (Windhand being the most obvious to come to mind), so I'd prefer to go for something a bit more depressive and raw. The songs below sum up what I'm aiming for.

Also, it would be cool to hear a clean male vocalist over something like this, as these bands are all fronted by women. I'm already really well versed in Pallbearer, Warning, 40 Watt Sun, etc. I'd like to hear a somewhat dirtier guitar tone, while still not really being stonery or psych. Preferably not Electric Wizard worship.

Greetings! Lately I've been trying to find bands with a slower tempo that fit a more gloomy, melancholic mood. Something where I can really feel each riff. I'm looking for something similar to these bands, especially if they have new releases this year;

Candlemass
Ahab
Ex People
Electric Wizard
Doomsword
Triptykon
Solstice

Anything like these that gives heavy distortion and a dark, crushing emotional feel is welcome!

They disbanded (better, he disbanded) and he hasn't really new releases, but since you mentioned Ahab, maybe you would find something you may like in the sole full length by Catacombs (2006). Crushing emotions and pretty well rounded riffs.

I'll echo Catacombs. That's one of the few examples of "funeral doom" I actually enjoyed.

I'd also recommend Cough's Ritual Abuse, which I've always found a more fitting successor to late 90s/early 00s Electric Wizard than EW's later sound.

If you don't mind more of a death/doom sound, Koloss's End of the Chayot and Stomach Earth's S/T are phenomenal pieces of heavy, emotionally-charged music.

And if you're willing to do a bit of digging Sceptical Schizo's The Plight is as depressing/nihilistic as they come. No drama or theatrics here. Just a kind of detached depression. Pretty lo-fi and crawls at a snail's pace, but I've not heard anything more desolate.

Hi there folks!

I'm looking for stoner metal, stoner doom stuff à la Sleep's Holy Mountain, Dopethrone/Witchcult Today Electric Wizard and Master of Reality/Paranoid Black Sabbath. I really like tracks like Into the Void by Sabbath and other space-themed stoner music with bluesy and psychedelic rock elements in it.

Thanks in advance!

Also, it would be cool to hear a clean male vocalist over something like this I'd like to hear a somewhat dirtier guitar tone, while still not really being stonery or psych.

Try this band:

And this one too:

These are good, thank you. I was familiar with Byrgan before and I was really into them. The Tower is cool, very melodic. Another band of this particular niche that I enjoy would be Livid, though they have some hints of stoner/sludge in the mix.
