Over the past few years, despite my teenage years listening to extreme metal I've been binge-listening to other genres that were explored to it's more extreme extent. I've covered quite a lot in the past few years but I was thinking what else is out there that I've not heard yet. I like to think this forum is filled with people who like the entertainment they consume as boundary pushing. So maybe you could point me in different directions too.

But to give you a clear idea what I've been listening to a lot recently, here are a few:

Death Grips - Giving Bad People Good Ideas:

This band pushes hip-hop/rap to it's most logical extent by combining it with gabber, digital hardcore, harsh noise, industrial or in the case of this track, seems to be very grindcore influenced. If you want something more extreme, check out their gabber influenced track Steroids which is almost 20 minutes long.

Street Sects - And I Grew Into Ribbons

This band fuses industrial, noise, hardcore punk and almost hip-hop like sampling at times. They sound like a cross between Nine Inch Nails and Converge to me, with synths taking over the job of guitars.

Author and Punisher - Terrorbird

In a timeline where metal never existed, but the nihilistic elements of doom and sludge metal were expressed through evil electronic music/industrial, this would probably be the result. Apparently, this genre of music is called death industrial? I think if my teenager ass wasn't too close minded I would've discovered this subgenre earlier.

Machine Girl - WLDGRL

First of all, idk what the fuck do I call this. A cross between gabber, hardcore punk and harsh industrial?

Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy

EDM? IDM? Idk. But some people call it breakcore. But this makes me think of 3rd wave black metal in the form of evil electronic/industrial music.

So I'm thinking of going deeper into the rabbit hole. I wanted to put some darker and heavier synthwave here too but I think there's already a thread for that. Maybe if synthwave is pushed towards it's more insane and extreme extent, then maybe it will fit this thread.

He is definitely a pioneer and major innovator for the breakcore genre. I'd maybe delve into some of the aggro-tech stuff if you haven't already. Some of it gets pretty heavy and super dark in a drug psychosis sort of way. Some of it is very dance influenced and a little cheese, mind you.

Psyclon Nine: https://youtu.be/52xoRLh2dWw

If you like Aphex Twin I would also go deeper into his stuff and also check out some other breakcore artists. The stuff is super "heavy" in its own right.

Aphex Twin - DrukQs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF99kdCUpAg&t=929s
Venetian Snares - WINNIPEG IS A FROZEN SHITHOLE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z02wKG6RRQ

Also dark and heavy in a totally different kind of way is dark psytrance (my personal favorite). It is an acquired taste, but man it can be a mindfuck. As long as 4/4 dance isn't off-putting to you.

It doesn't get much more extreme than Beherit's mighty "Fish"

Trick-Trick (Rapper from Detroit) is very extreme Gangster Rap. Whenever he has his pal Diezel on a track, things get really intense. There is no link on youtube, but if you have spotify (It may be on Apple Music as well. I don't have apple music, so I don't know) check the track "Udonwantit" from the album "The Outlaw". The track also features Tech N9ne.

The piece Organ²/ASLSP by John Cage tells the performer to play it as slow as possible. It is currently performed in a church in Halberstadt, Germany and is scheduled to end in 2640. You can listen to a recording of the current note here:http://www.aslsp.org/de/, but sadly there is no live stream.

What's some stuff similar to Machine Girl? That's one of the most amazing things I've ever heard!

I feel like John Zorn is an ideal candidate for this thread. Jazz to the extreme.

Igor Wakhévitch - Docteur Faust

Well it's not really extreme, but you should try this.

Just want to say it's excellent seeing Machine Girl get some love. It's definitely digital hardcore I can get behind.

Death Grips doesn't push hip hop to extremities. They're hardly hip hop, far too many genres going on to be considered one genre. I'd say JPEGMAFIA is more the guy pushing hip hop boundaries.

Besides the funny beat there wasn't anything remotely unusual about that. The guy is no Kool Keith...

I suppose Julian Bonequi is a great fit for this thread, there is not many people who can drum like he can or are willing to take jazz to such extremes including John Zorn who toes the line, but never fully disregards it.

Another candidate is Vision Girl, I'm not really sure what there is to say about this. Perhaps the single bandcamp "review" sums it up jut perfectly.

I was just trying to picture what Country music taken to it's most extreme would be. How many tractors and cowboy hats can you fit into and lose all in one song?

Someone accomplished that by merging several similar hit country songs to create the ultimate amalgamation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY8SwIvxj8o

You should check out the death roots syndicate compilations. They have some pretty good stuff.

Some more boundary pushing rap from Germany

https://audio88.bandcamp.com/album/wer- ... remastered

Very abstract and experimental and probably only fully understandable if you speak german since the lyrics are the key part of his work. It reminds me a bit of the german origins of Gothic music (like early Das Ich, Goethes Erben, Misanthrope... just not quite as death-oriented)

Hey I'm not knocking it, but it's definitely something I do not like even a little bit. I do like seeing weird groups like them achieve some degree of success, however. That's always a good sign to me.

Thy mix together all sorts of stuff, calling their stlye "Absurd Rock" and they are around since 1997. They released 2 songs in this Black Hop style and while those 2 genres are usually opposing each other in style, meaning and basically everything, they are pulling it off really good. Ghostmane gets hyped for being the inventor of Rap meets BM even though he only uses a somewhat satanic image while creating generic TripHop.

I know it is probably meant as a joke or something, but I really like the idea behind it and how they pulled it off. And want to see that thing become an actual thing
