I know, what a question right?

Of course, there's no one like him but let me elaborate...

Dio kind of ruined metal for me, but in a good way. After listening to every song sung by that man, any time I give a new album or band a listen, I end up comparing them to Ronnie.

More often than not, the singer's vocal prowess falls short of Dio and his mighty pipes.

It seems no matter where I look, singers often pale in comparison.

I'd love some suggestions, and I'm sure this community of metalheads knows more than I do.

I'm looking for a singer who can hit high notes effortlessly like old Ronnie could. A frontman with not only power in his lungs but control.

Bands and singers with themes of fantasy and magic are welcome but not overly important.

I dont care too much for wailing or guttural gurgles.
The closest singer I could find is Jørn Lande.

Female lead band suggestions are welcome. I have nothing but respect for powerful singers like Doro Pesch, and of recently Brittany Hayes from Unleash the Archers.

Thanks in advance everyone for your help.

Rest in Peace Dio

This really sounds like you need some Manowar in your life. I'd start with the early classics (Hail to England, Into Glory Ride, Sign of the Hammer), then Kings of Metal, all of those are undisputed classics (most people would also include the debut), then see what else by them you like because opinions are divided over the rest of the albums. But I'd say there can be no question about the power of Eric Adams' pipes. Also fantasy and magic themes for you right there.

I think DeFeis from Virgin Steele sounds pretty similar in some regards (in the mid-range especially). But I'm not sure how far you can take the comparison. I've at least heard people say they sound similar in that range.

Can't go wrong with "The Marriage of Heaven Hell" parts 1 and 2, and "Invictus".

Im a bit similar case than you. Good vocals can save mediocre material, or ruin good material.
Check Witherfall : nocturnes and requiems, vocalist Joseph Michaels have a bit wider range and similar power, and he's RJD's cousin.

few Bands/records worth checking, in similar spirit

Symphony X : odyssey/paradise lost
Sons of apollo
And check the latest Nightwish live material with F. Jansen, if not for the music, excellent live performances.

Mike Tirelli from Holy Mother does a pretty spot-on cover of "Holy Diver".

Came here just to say him. He is the most Dio sounding guy ever that isn't named Dio.

Yup, singer from Astral Doors sounds eerily similar to Dio.

The lead singer from Edgend is the most Dio-sounding dude I've ever heard.

@threadstarter: as you've mentioned Jorn Lande yourself - do you know about his vocal job with Mundanus Imperium - The Spectral Spheres Coronation?

A newer band Leather Heart has a pretty apparent Dio influence
/
Salem's Wych and Warlord. The nonproscriptor singer on Absu's stone of destiny song sounds like Dio to me.

Wow no I didn't know about Jorn doing that!

And thankyou all, I appreciate and I've listened to every one of your suggestions.
Being active military doesn't give me a lot of free time so I wish I responded sooner.

Still thankyou all again.

Ronnie James Dio
Rest in peace.

Also: how do you all feel about the Dio Returns tour?

I mean I wish I Was born earlier than 1995 and wasn't raised in a ridiculously strict Catholic household and I got to see him live.

But still the animation for his hologram needs some work. As someone whose seen every live concert video on YouTube I could find the hologram behaves very little like the real man.

Would love to hear your thoughts every one.

I'm sorry but I see "Dio hologram" as an abhorrent postmodernist marketing necromancy act.

Alternative view: it's a way for fans who never got the chance to see one of their favorite artists, to be able to experience them in a live setting.

both are valid perspectives, I suppose.

Hey man, you really need to check out these guys if you want to hear some very obvious dio influence and it's not similar to any of those douchy melodic metal songs dokken writes.
