Megadeth's song Set the World Afire was originally named Megadeth if I remember correctly.

The (un)holy trifecta. Song, band, and album all having the same title.

is there a one man band with the sole member also sharing the same name? perhaps a label?

Helheim has quite a few of these, starting from the Terrorveldet EP they had a self-titled thing on each of their releases for a while. This year's album did not have the 'expected' Helheim 10 though.

I think I read somewhere that "Helheim 9" was actually the last installment of Helheim saga.

And I'm still hoping for Katy Perry to do another Christian album.

Nevermore failed to make "Nevermore" but there's a version of "The Raven" read by Warrel Dane on Ted Kirkpatrick's "Edgar Allan Poe: Spoken Tales of a Tortured Genius" so how's that for self titled?

"Pagan Altar" and "Black Sabbath" are still the best s/t songs. That "Manowar" song is painful. "Virgin Steele" by Virgin Steele is not as painful but nothing to really remember either.

Interestingly there's a "Fates Warning" by Iron Maiden and a "Judas Priest" by Anthrax.

Black Sabbath and Iced Earth have the best self-titled tunes for my money.

X - X (Blue Blood, 1989) It's a concert staple.

I always liked Cryptopsy's "Gravaged (a cryptospy)", as Lord Worm used another portmanteau to expound on the meaning of the portmanteau they made up for a band name.

Belphegor's "Belphegor-Hell's Ambassador" from Pestapokalypse is awesome. Not only is it a ripping track, in the chorus when Helmuth says their name they did some double tracking and pitch shifting studio wizardry to make it absolutely massive and inhuman. It works well because it's the only time on the record they use those effects so it stands out in a good way.

"BEL-PHE-GOOORRR!!!"

Kind of surprised Gorefest's "Gorefest" hasn't been mentioned yet.

Same with Autopsy's "Autopsy", where the lyrics are just namedropping the titles of their other songs throughout their career.

Let's not forget Sortilège. Chuck Schuldiner's favorite band ever.

- Carpathian Forest
- Nocturnus
- Forgotten Tomb
- Gehennah

Also, BESTIAAAAL... WARLUUUUST!!!!

Technically all the four songs from the Abigor / Thy Darkened Shade / Nightbringer / Mortuus 4-way split are self-titled.

Watain covered Von's Watain and War (Swe) covered Bathory's War - I guess their versions are "self-titled songs" now!

Close calls:

- Infernal Death by Death on Scream Bloody Gore and at least a demo;
- Zycloned by Zyklon on World ov Worms, and I guess Psyklon Aeon from Aeon;
- Dominions of Satyricon by Satyricon on The Shadowthrone;
- Xasthur Within by Xasthur on To VIolate the Oblivious;
- Loyal to the Crown of God Dethroned by God Dethroned on The Lair of the White Worm;
- Battle star Abigor by Abigor on Satanized
- Destroyer by Destroyer 666 on the Six Songs with the Devil demo and the Violence Is the Prince of This World reissue;
- Hornanväki by Horna on Hiidentorni;
- Waffen Blodulv by Blodulv on their s/t debut, also known as Waffen Blodulv 666 on the Kristkrossare demo.
