Blazon Stone - Beasts of War

Killer! I'd say No Sign of Glory is their best album..

Morbid Angel - Maze of Torment

Incredible, blistering intensity. What elevated this above the thrash of the day was Trey's insane solos and the unrelenting nature of it... fascinating to see a genre basically born.

Morbid Angel - Caesar's Palace

I'm listening to this one for the very first time. My comment? Holy. Shit.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - Knucklehugs (Arm Yourself with Love)

I had no idea they were releasing an album this year. This song is gibbering insanity, and I would be disappointed if it were anything but. I can't stop listening to it. Someone send help.

Beastcraft - "Deathcraft and Necromancy"

A surprisingly peaceful song, one of the highlights from this album. I especially like the oddly sunny basslines.

Kriegsmachine- Fear And Loathing in Gethsemane

I had never checked them out, which, I'm not sure why I hadn't considering how much I enjoy Mgła. I like it.

Aosoth - A Heart to Judge

This song is one of my favorites of the year. The intensity of the track builds consistently and is just a total riff assault. Anyone into the DsO school of dissonance should check this out

NP: Kardashev - The Almanac (2017)
Post-deathcore? Interesting mix of post-metalisms, progressive writing and -core elements. I'm not as high on it as others seem to be, but I will say I enjoy their more focused and varied approach over the closest comparison I can think of, Fallujah.

Avé - Venom Inc.

I know this isn't hugely popular, and it does suffer from Nuclear Blast polish, but it's a grower. Now if someone would finally reissue Temples of Ice and The Waste Lands.

Well, I rarely ever see you talk about that kind of prog stuff. Not surprised you didn't dig it.

Morbid Angel - D.E.A.D.

Sounding better this time - nicely heavy and urgent stuff.

Impaled Nazarene - Suomi Finland Perkele

This is the "Finland 100 years special edition" LP. Not much of a patriot, but this is still fitting listening to this occasion. Some songs have curiously this very Finnish melancholic atmosphere. I like. Next: Yngwie's Fire and Ice.

I really like virtually all Threshold albums, but the new one is a bit disappointing for me, even after multiple listens. I just don't think they had enough for an 80-minute album - there is a rock-solid 50-minute one in there, though. And I just cannot find anything outstanding about "The Man Who Saw Through Time" and a few others.

NP: Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance

... I could swear this album is better on headphones than on speakers. One of their weaker records, actually - a bit inconsistent in quality, but still good enough to come back to every once in a while.

The fact that this monumental band has been mostly relegated to one-hit-wonder status is one of the great tragedies of our time.

Morbid Angel - Summoning Redemption

Trey Azagthoth's guitar madness is just what I need these days. Heavy, sludgy and occult-fueled.

A world-consuming brute of a song from an unbelievably massive and dark album. The song competes with 'Maze of Torment' for my favourite MA track and Gateways is, to my mind, the 2nd best thing they ever did. Fantastic stuff; a modern classic.

Alice in Chains - Alice in Chains

A one of a kind album, it's just so perfect.

Blind Guardian - Thorn

There's so much going on here and I love it. I had the idea this would be an album that would break my interest in BG again, but the complexity and emotional depth of this thing just blows my mind. My only complaint are the interludes which I'm rarely a fan of to begin with, but oh well.

You picked a great album to start with :)

Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno

Now this is some heavy, nasty, fire spitting metal.

Exodus - Iconoclasm

Great drums on this album, but damn Dukes is a boring vocalist, and embarrassing live. Surprised he has quite a few defenders who want him over Zetro.

Kalmah-Hollo
They really should use clean vocals more often. Such a dreary song, it's great.

That Kalmah album is one of my absolute favorite things right now. I don't know what's considered the best stuff from Kalmah, but man, that album has made a fan out of me. I sampled a few early ones and so far I'm digging them big time.

Cathedral - The Garden of Unearthly Delights

This band is my other favorite thing right now. Soooo awesome, and I never even knew.

Kalmah have never released a bad album.

Incredibly consistent, but their sound changed quite a bit after their first keyboardist left around 2005. So everything before The Black Waltz is sort of their own thing. Those three albums sound so similar that it makes sense.

Kalmah has always been the best melodeath band. Ever since their debut they dominated without pause. And I love how they have done it as well. No showboating, no delusional rock star dreams *Laiho, cough*. They just continued delivering greatness every couple of years. It has been a while since their last album though.... I hope we'll hear from them soon.

Kalmah - Like a Slave

First Kalmah song I heard. Discovered it not long after I discovered metal itself. I don't think it's too much praise to say that this song hooked me for life.

It's funny, that song is coming from the album people considered to be the "worst". I never got it, songs like Outremer, Towards the Sky and Dead Mans Shadow were better than anything off of Swampsong except for maybe The Third The Magical.

Their worst is still damn good, but that album's production is weak as hell, and a couple of the songs are interchangeable. "Like a Slave" is one of the better tunes, though.

I think some people consider it to be their worst because it's the album after The Black Waltz which in turn is considered to be their best by many. Personally I think it's a great album. But to be completely fair, it is their weakest overall.

Ugh I feel dirty using "worst" and "weakest" when talking about Kalmah.

Warfather - The Grey Eminence

I listened to the new Morbid Angel earlier today and really like how aggressive Steve Tucker is on it and am exploring some of his other projects and came across this.

Nargaroth - Seven Tears are Flowing to the River

Yes, so what if I like to get slightly drunk and listen to some emotional black metal! The riffs really hold up. It's my prime example of when black metal can be repetitive as shit without getting boring.

Probably my favourite track from their new album. Some of the lyrics Matt comes up with are devastating.

Ancestral - Ancestral (1993)

pretty normal death metal, riffs are actually quite nice and the solos work well. surprising for a demo youtube just randomly suggested.
part of the first song sounds just like something me and my old friend came up with a good time back, guess we weren't all that original

Can't stop listening to this lately, one of the best blends of thrash and industrial ever made.
