I've re-ignited the flame that is my love for black metal...I'm pretty familiar with the Euro BM bands; really love Dissection, Bathory, Immortal, Enslaved, Mgla, Primordial, and the list goes on. However I am not too familiar with USBM bands outside of Agalloch, Dumal, and a few others I enjoy. Can anyone who is a USBM fan suggest some of the quality bands hailing from the states. Thanks.

My personal favourite is Grand Belial's Key - putrid as all fuck but stellar musicianship. Essential USBM. (And while you're at it, check out Arghoslent too - they're death metal but fucking great nonetheless).

Heavily recommend Black Witchery too, their first record is the epitome of rabid.

Anything Pete Helmkamp is involved in is mandatory too, especially Angelcorpse and Order From Chaos.

On a more modern note, also definitely check out Negative Plane. Totally putrid band, truly the metal equivalent of a medieval woodcut hell.

AmpĆ¼tator is also criminally underrated. Noisy, chaotic, sometimes punkish stuff. Warlike as all fuck too.

And while we're at it, if you appreciate noisiness Nyogthaeblisz is a must too. If there's such a thing as sonic warfare, this is it.

Vastly different from the others, but Nightbringer are great too. You'll probably hear much Scandinavian influence here, especially early Emperor.

That should help for now!

My faves of USBM would be these:

Demoncy - Joined in darkness: Fantastically evil, lowtuned guitars and synths creeping along eerily, atop of which are vocals that have been described as "reptilian" in their inhumane cold and lifelessness.

Weakling - Dead as dreams: This is what should have been the template for "post-black metal"; emotionally charged, engulfing and intense music. Unlike many that followed, the repetitiousness is no-nonsensical here as the compositions are not drawn out by just plodding away ad nauseam, but are actually building up to epic proportions.

I'll second Weakling. Absolutely fantastic.

FYI for requests such as yours, it's better to use the threads that are already in place:

Kicking myself for forgetting this dark piece of art:

Akhlys - The dreaming I. ...well, maybe you'll experience the same that I and others have...that you'll get an immediate idea merely by looking at the cover artwork. Nightmarish seems an apt adjective for this spellbinding album. It holds a personal record in my 23+ years of collecting music in that it is the album I purchased after the shortest running amount of sample listening time...within 10 seconds iirc.
