Malcolm Young passed away today, unfortunately.
Classic song and classic band.

Arrayan Path - Dawn Of Aquarius

After taking over a day to fucking download this from Bandcamp due to my atrocious internet connection, I am finally hearing this... more straightforward than their super-dense, esoteric last album. And it sounds good. Clear, heavy power metal with great melodies.

edit: This is fucking awesome. They keep getting better. With the void left by urban breed lately, it's great that these guys are churning out the dark, heavy trad/power I crave.

AC/DC - Rock or Bust

This honestly is one of their finest albums.

The Ruins of Beverast - Rain upon the Impure

I feel like if there were such a thing as "stoner black metal" it would sound like this.

Fister - Gemini

Great album, this one. A really rough sludge doom album with awesome harsh vocals. An absolute delight from start to finish. Looking forward to hearing their new one in 2018.

Interesting. Not quite the association I would make.

Used to be my fave CF. Still very close. The playing is HEAVY.

Crows - The Frantic Factor

Super addictive melodic/proggy USPM from...Germany. Maybe the most surprising power metal band I've discovered this year.

Damageplan - Moment Of Truth

I really don't get the Nu Metal label... the album sounds like standard Groove Metal with some melody and shit. Okay there might be three Nu Metal esc songs on this album but they are the three most melodic songs on the album and in the minority.

Darkthrone - Rust

This may be my favourite Darkthrone song post-Panzerfaust. The guitar tone is PERFECT for raw black metal, and the final climax at 6:10 makes headbanging obligatory.

That one and "Divided We Stand" are my favorites from HT.

Pink Floyd - San Tropez

Ehh... I feel this one is the worst song off Meddle. "Seamus" is at least funny, this one just doesn't sit well with rest of the material. Oh well. It would still be a sin to skip it.

Boy the world of Rock music has become really grim this year!

Overkill - It Lives

Funny how the band managed some of their best produced albums during their leanest years...

Striborg - Misanthropic Isolation

Revisiting some old Striborg tonight, still awesome.
Been into this band for so many years now.

Cavalera Conspiracy - Spectral War

Decided to give this a try and it's awful. I read somewhere that they went back to their roots. Sounds as bad as Roots. Chuggs and -core vocals. I'll pass.

Vassafor - "Black Winds Victoryant" (from the new album)

This has always been one of my more favored Vassafor songs, but this version seems to have some slightly different "ingredients." I would need to listen to this side-by-side with the older version(s) of the songs to pinpoint what exactly is different, but they definitely made some changes. The overall effect is more... epic... rousing... I really like it.

Gamma Ray- Land of the Free II

Happy 10th anniversary!

This is a little better than I remembered it. Except for Real World, that song is trash.

Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia

It's been a long time since I revisted DK and they really were great before their first break up. I like the surf-music esque riffs of the song, and the lyrics are definitely hard hitting. I mean, just the first line of the song is dripping with sarcasm and anger. "So you've been to school for a year or two and you know you've seen it all."

AC/DC - Touch Too Much

AC/DC - Touch Too Much (alternative version from Volts, on the Bonfire box set, same title as the track on Highway to Hell, different lyrics and music)

Чёрный Обелиск (Black Obelisk) - Touch Too Much (AC/DC cover) from Стена (The Wall)

I'm on my 2-3 listen. Only the first and last songs impressed me.

Radiohead - Knives Out

I've thought this was a fucking amazing song since I was a kid. Addictively dire, hypnotic melodies.

One of my favourites by them.

Timber Timbre- Sewer Blues

Canadian band that plays creepy, dark indie rock. This track in particular wouldn't be out of place being played in the roadhouse in David Lynch's Twin Peaks series.

Anthem - Empty Eyes (Bound to Break)

Ripping Japanese heavy metal with a strong penchant for speed and muscle. Lots of Judas Priest influence. I fucking love this album.

Huh, trying this Timber Timbre band and it's interesting so far. Odd seedy folk... rather atmospheric. Nice find.

TAPHOS
It’s a newer death metal band from Denmark,
Coming from the same camps than Undergrang and Phrenelith.
They released a new tape in November.

Stygma IV - The Void, off The Human Twilight Zone

Heavy metal 101 pretty much, but goddamn if they don't make this huge, Sabbathian riff work.

Order from Chaos - Webs of Perdition (from the Will to Power EP)

One of the most misunderstood or under-appreciated (or both) bands in all of heavy metal. They're as heavy as anything ever recorded but don't sound like any other band EVER. Zero similarities in riffing to anything else. The closest I can come up with is Voivod filtered through even more hardcore punk and a very solitary mindset.

(2017) Blut aus Nord - Deus Salutis Meæ and (2016) Deathspell Omega - The Synarchy of Molten Bones on my way back from work.

Both are enjoyable but...

P.S: (1996) Jamiroquai - Travelling Without Moving relaxing with a beer at home.
