Metallica - Halo On Fire

Probably my favorite thing they've done since the 80s. I get chills from this - what an awesome track, full of emotion and foreboding.

Crafteon - What the Moon Brings

Zero Tolerance mag cover CDs strike gold again ! Great slice of USBM with the off-produced vocals you don't often find in modern BM at all.

Agreed, that's one of my favorites off of Hardwired.... It has a really nice groove and melody to it.

Candlemass - The Well of Souls

Such an amazing record, but this song is the best one on the record for me. It has such an old, ancient, and kind of spooky feel to it. Almost like a haunted house.

One of my favourite late era Dio tracks. That ending.

Lamb Of God - Omerta

I remember listening to this album 365 days ago, while hell was taken over the world... or at least for me.

Mork - Eremittens Dal (2017)

Uhhhh... I tried, but this type of lo-fi, plodding, simplistic black'n'roll does absolutely nothing for me.

NP: Selvans / Downfall of Nur (collaboration 2016)
I was thinking about Downfall of Nur's fantastic 2015 debut Umbras de Barbagia, and got curious as to whether there was any word on new material in the works. Didn't find any updates but I did find this full on collaboration with Italy's Selvans from 2016 that I completely missed. Wow! What a fantastic piece of folky and atmospheric black metal. I'll have to check out more from Selvans, but this will definitely please any fan of Downfall's first album.

dug out this demo tape, what an amazing piece of unique, intricate black metal (fluisteraars - t'hondslog):

Fates Warning - Nothing Left to Say

Best of the Alder era. Such a shame the band never did anything interesting again once the 80's had ended.

Yeah, it was almost amazing to me because like, why were they not doing stuff on this level before? I didn't hate their stuff on Load or Death Magnetic, but it wasn't even close to this level.

Lizzy Borden - Shock

Seriously first rate and on the level of any 80s great. The stuff he does with his voice is out of this world; super talented. The riffs are simple but the writing is agile and catchy as fuck. Just a pristine work.

Taake - Inntrenger

New track. Well, it has cool riffs as expected.... but it has the same production as 'Stridens hus' sadly. I don't get that! Why not go for the full and rich sound on 'Noregs vaapen'?? This production is so thin and powerless, and not in that 'necro' kind of way.
And it has a fucking fade-out, Jesus Christ, just end the song properly! It's the worst black metal cliche in my opinion. Sometimes it works to end epic songs, but albums like Panzerfaust do it on literally every track.

So glad someone posted about this new project/album. Holy shit, it's refreshing. Really digging it, and I feel like it will just get better and better with more listens.

Lords of the Crimson Alliance - Lords of the Crimson Alliance

This has to be some of the best USPM I've ever heard. The spoken word intros are hilarious and borderline unintelligible, and the vocals are crazy and weird like all good USPM. Totally killer record!

One of my favorites ever. Have you heard it's sci-fi sleaze sister album Barbarians of the New Earth, by Grudge? Same guys, totally different sound. It's like the soundtrack to some sci-fi exploitation film that never got made.

Militia - Objective Termination

Completely mad. I am frustrated that The Sybling EP isn't on YT in full though. Was trying to jam it a little at work. I guess I'll have to throw it on when I get home. (Not an original...)

I think you'll enjoy their solo material. Lupercalia is an incredibly lush and atmospheric piece of woodland BM and well worth tracking down. The song O Clitumne! is utterly astounding.

NP: Samael - Hegemony (2017)

Someone here mentioned it was the closest throwback to Passage they've done yet and I completely agree. The menacing industrial-meets-orchestral parts are back with a vengeance!

I've listened to a bit of it, but haven't given it my proper attention yet. It's on my list!

Cradle of Filth - The Night at Catafalque Manor

Anyone considering buying Cryptoriana on CD, make sure you get the digipak version with this song. For some reason it's a bonus track, even though it might be the best song on there. Haven't liked a (studio recording, non-cover) bonus track this much since Xandria's When the Mirror Cracks from Neverworld's End.

Hell yeah, dude. I've been jamming all of their catalogue lately.

Iced Earth - Declaration Day (Live in Ancient Kourion)

I think Stu sounds kind of awkward on the Ripper era stuff in general. He sounds much better when he's on stuff that he himself recorded, as well as the Barlow era material.

Nordjevel - Nordjevel (2016)

Impressive debut. Simplistically, this could be labelled the Norwegian version of Dark Funeral but with a more epic and slightly Viking feel to the riffs. Når Noen Andre Dør... in particular was really impressive with how it shifted back and forth seamlessly from grim to triumphant sounding riffs in a heartbeat.

Devin Townsend - OM (Demo)

People deem this track as "Regulator"'s long lost brother due to a similar intro. Gotta admit, the song is really good, shame it was only released in demo version.

:np: NP: Deliverance - 23

Soo good. Say what you want about the fact they're a Christian band, Weapons of our Warfare is fucking masterful - sounds a lot like Years of Decay-era Overkill mixed with elements of early Metallica (specifically that lead guitar sounding a lot like Hammett stylistically and tone-wise).

Spinning this in memory of my grandmother, who passed away last Monday. She really liked TDBS when I showed them to her last year.

NP: Lazarus Blackstar - The Tragedy of the Monochrome Man

A friend recommended them to me just now. Listening through the first one, Revelations. A slab of pretty heavy sludge. Me like.

Motorhead - 1916

As Remembrance Day approaches, I feel there's no other song that captures the horrors of war like this one. Please, take a few minutes of your day to show honour and respect for those who fought in the nightmares that were WWI and WWII.

I know this is getting a little off topic, but I was watching videos on WW1 the other day, and I ended up watching a video on Shell Shock. I'm pretty desensitized to a lot of shit, but seeing what it did to these guys made me cry. It was so heartbreaking.

Iced Earth - A Charge to Keep

One of my favorites from the Ripper era. Musically it isn't anything amazing, but the feel of it does it for me.

I can sympathize, but as far as desensitization goes, I feel WWI and WWII are top of the game. The two most brutal, and most important, conflicts in history. Fuck war. I mean that in the best way possible.

Lucifer's Friend - Mean Machine

This actually kicks ass. Sounds just like a hard rock album should sound - punchy. Had no experience with this band before.
