Can't speak for the whole album yet, but this song is probably the best they've done since Axioma. And it doesn't get much better than that.

I've had the album on repeat since yesterday morning. I'm really enjoying it.

Boisson Divine - Los Invisibles

If you’re interested in some heavy metal with folk elements, give these guys a go.

NP: Brutus - Burst (album)

Yeah, this is easily the best thing I've heard all year. Absolutely floored. You won't hear anything like this band. Female fronted hardcore/mathrock/post-rock with occasional blast beats (!) and a few moments of post-black metal riffing. More than just a hodge-podge of genres and sounds, though. The band is very focused and cohesive. The emotional immensity of this album is stunning. Unmatched debut, hell, unmatched album as far as 2017 goes.

Brutus - All Along

This is great. Thank you!

Power Quest - Lords Of Tomorrow

Well at least now we know exactly where the middle of the road is. This is pretty uninspiring and vanilla material. Super generic.

Beast in Black - "Blind and Frozen" and "Beast in Black"

Can't get enough of these symphonic power metal anthems. Just the right amount of cheese and epicness... and I don't normally like this genre either. Looking forward to the debut!

Samael - Hegemony

I like the heavier production, but the material is mostly unspectacular. The title track, "Black Supremacy", "Rite Of Renewal" and that Beatles cover are highlights. Mildly disappointed with this album, though, I did expect more than a re-hash of their trademark style.

"Emerencia" has always been a favorite of mine. WHERE ARE YOU GOING WITH THAT...KNAAAAAAIIIIIIIFE!!

Threshold - Small Dark Lines

This might very well be my favorite Threshold album, all things considered.

^ On Puppet Master, I've always loved 'Blood to Walk' but yeah the whole album is great.

NP: Beherit - Werewolf, Semen and Blood :headbang:

Best ever, standing in diametric opposition to how most think bm should sound: swampyy riffs that are almost primitive death metal, bass-heavy mix with a warm sound, progressive song structures with all kinds of weird riffs, ambient sections, and a batshit crazy vocal performance. This, the first Impaled Nazarene album, and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas are the unholy trinity of music.

Martyr - The Eibon (from For the Universe)

This album rules. This instrumental rules. Killer as fucking speed/heavy metal that sounds a LOT like USPM at the end of the day, though it's from the Netherlands. Very pacey and manic, lots of riffs and leads flying everywhere. Strongly recommend and the album is so short it's basically an EP.

There's literally no reason to have the second half of the song, it butchers it.

Pink Floyd - "Flaming"

"Yippee! You cawn't see me! But I can you!" I've been pondering all day how high Sid Barrett was when he wrote this song.

It is SO anti-climactic. The pre-chorus and chorus of that song are a few of the best moments of the career.

Just finished: Nile - Ithyphallic
Loses a bit of steam towards the end with that long track, but otherwise, this one seems to get better with every listen.

Now playing: Venenum - Trance of Death
More clever death metal, the atmospheric bits work amazingly, and some of the riffs, although not produced that harshly, still tear your face off.

How do you compare it with the older albums?

(1989) Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness and (1991) Bolt Thrower - War Master on my way to work.
I think I prefer the second one.

Yay for Bolt Thrower, but I have a curious question to ask you. Your posts in this thread usually end with "on my way to work" or "on my way back from work". How long is your trip? Do you bring albums specifically to listen to on the ride? You must have a long commute to listen to 2 albums.

I am nowhere close to the level of giving Nile albums a proper contextual review (I started actively listening to them last year, maybe), so this will be judged purely on personal taste and should be taken with a huge grain of salt. It seems to me that the riffage is very well defined and there are plenty of big hooks, which Nile sometimes lack. I would rank it somewhere in the middle of the pack, which is pretty good for a band that strong. I believe that whatever came after Ithyphallic was worse than that album, and of what came before, I like it more than the debut and consider it about equally good to In Their Darkened Shrines.

So something like:
Annihilation = Black Seeds > In Their Darkened Shrines = Ithyphallic > Nephren-Ka > Those Whom The Gods Detest > What Should Not Be Unearthed > Gates of Sethu

Anyways, NP: Skyclad - A Burnt Offering For The Bone Idol
The main/chorus riff of "A Declaration of Indifference" is perfect. PERFECT, I'm telling you.

The Chasm - Scars Of My Journey

I lost the CD I had, so I had to go retrieve this off an old computer at my parents' house. This is perfection basically. Just riffhammer tunes and seething apocalyptic melody. Their shortest and most concise too, which is good.

So 2-3 albums.

Kunstzone - Creature Of Sinews And Lard

My favorite band just released a new single. If there ever was a Kunstzone song that would be best described as a mixture of Anaal Nathrakh and Fear Factory, this is it. I am happy that they are still going the path of balls-to-the-wall intensity and chaos. Can't wait for their next full album, because this appetizer left me wanting!

Cranial - Lights

Well, this is quite something. I'm not much of a fan of post-metal, but damn this is so good. It's great how the band chooses to kick the listener in the face from the very start of the song, with a good, fairly dramatic riff. The song develops of course, and there's the famed loud/quiet dynamic, and it works really well. Would recommend the whole album Dark Towers, Bright Lights

Black Anvil - Nothing

"As Was" has a lot of different sounds going on, the black/thrash label really isn't accurate for this band. It sounds like CoC-style hardcore in a lot of places, punk in other places, straight up Type O Negative worship in some spots and post-rock in others. Maybe could have used more focus and more black metal, but still a cool album. Stoked to see them with Immolation and Mayhem in a few weeks.

One of their best, alongside their debut.
About the Nazi thing, well, aside from their demos which I refuse to listen to ideologically, their other stuff doesn't really have any nazi stuff in it so you can calm him down :)

That's very interesting to me. Ideologically, you can't listen to the demos because there's "nazi stuff". But if there's not "nazi stuff" and he's still a nazi, it's okay? I don't get it at all. It sounds to me like you avoid the "nazi stuff" because it makes you personally uncomfortable. If it were ideological wouldn't you avoid the guy's work entirely?

That's exactly what I've thought about when I first encountered Peste Noire. I've read in an official interview from the band that the band completely rejects he nazi ideology and they've used the nazi imagery for shock values only. I have avoided Slayer for this same reason before, and I feel a bit guilty listening to Burzum. Should I stop listening to Alcest as well since Niege took part in early Peste Noire, and their previous incarnation too?

EDIT: I am not, and I will never defend a nazi in any possible way. I want this idiotic ideology to go extinct, as well as all the people who commit acts in the name of it. That's the reason I will never listen to Satanic Warmaster, Goatmoon, and the like.

I was just trying to understand where the arbitrary line in the sand is drawn based on "ideology". It seemed more like convenience of comfort. I don't care what you listen to at all, player. I own Arghoslent and Satanic Warmaster stuff. I don't listen to Satanic Warmaster because it kinda sucks, personally.
