Does anyone have any recommendations for bands similar to Acid Bath? It can be musically but, really what I am looking for is lyrically, bonus points for heaviness, but feel free to recommend anything, thanks lads

There's already been the very same request some months ago, if I remember well.

The only band that is very similar to AB, in style, in mood, in that very peculiar mix of groove, grunge-like crooning vocals and profound uneasiness is the French band Hangman Chair. No other project can be as directly compared to AB, lyrically as well (drugs, suicide, abuse, etc.)

I have all their albums but their debut, all are very recommendable.

Go for Abuse. The closest I can imagine. They play Grunge/Sludge/Death Metal.

There're no death elements in Acid Bath, and obviously it's quite dominating in Abuse. It's something totally different to me.
AB are not resorting to aggression to give off a strong reek of moral decay; they have a very idiosyncratic way to convey a sense of morbidity and dread with an ironic eye and a touch of sensuality even. Unique band the are.

lmao dude there are a shit ton of blastbeats and Obituary/Autopsy riffs in Kite String. The death metal elements are one of the defining traits of Acid Bath that made them unique in sludge, the other being the grunge/alt metal clean vocal stuff. Abuse is definitely more DM oriented, or at least it seems that way because the clean vocals are more Pantera than Alice in Chains. But to say there's no DM in Acid Bath is ignoring part of what made them so unique in the first place

Ok, I've certainly been a tad too assertive, but the death elements you hear aren't part of the distinctive sound signature of AB, imo. It's not what drag me to them at any rate. To me, the traces of death are there to put some beef into the doom. I'd describe the whole as a mix of sludgecore+Stoner+Grunge. But yeah, sure, WTKSP is a very rich and diverse album whose parts are remarkably put together.
PTT has lost that death-ish side, it's, I don't know... more goth, glam and grunge?

That Abuse song isn't sounding like AB at all though...

I'm listening to some Abuse and I can see some parallels with Acid Bath, especially their early stuff.

Since Acid Bath was such a unique band, it's going to be hard to find stuff that matches up with them perfectly. But I'm following this thread for sure; Acid Bath is one of my favorites.

Bloody Hammers. Not as raw and uncompromising or as brilliant as Acid Bath, but the vibe is there and the vocalist sounds like Dax.

Acid Bath toured a lot with Buzz*oven & Crisis so you could try them...

Thanks for the recs guys, liking Abuse even though they're not really what I'm looking for. Liking Hangman Chair, probably the closest thing to what I am looking for that I think I'm gonna find.

Thanks televiper11, I have listened to Buzz*oven and like them, I gotta check out Crisis, never heard them yet.

As for Bloody Hammers, I still gotta check them out.
