legitimately thinking of recording a metal cover of 'Paranoid' by Kanye West. I'm a huge fan of his but have never really gotten around to doing a cover of one of his songs.

Finally released the first Lock Howl full-length and am just finishing up recording for the upcoming Hellripper debut full-length. Then I have a whole bunch of different things planned including recording a Lord Rot album, a couple of Hellripper splits and starting a couple of new bands.

I've been doing a dark ambient music project since last month with a desktop Korg MS-20 I decided to purchase. I still don't know jack shit about using the patch panel properly but otherwise it's quite fun. Using FL Studio 12 to organise and mix the recordings. Shit will be on Bandcamp soon if I think it's good enough.

Spirit Division is working on new material and gigs for 2017, but I'm releasing an acoustic EP that I recorded myself later this month. I'd best describe the style as dark folk/blues. Might be up your alley if you're into stuff like The Mountain Goats, Dax Riggs, and American Recordings-era Johnny Cash.

I've been pretty active, Forestfather's future release is instrumentally almost done, same for Er Murazor's debut. I'm working on the ÆRA release which has been pretty fast. We might be able to complete it this very same month!

Nice! That is a sweet synth. I was thinking about getting one a while back but ended up going with the Oydessy re-issue. I might still pick up an MS-20 though if I find one used for a good price.

Busy as always. I released a neofolk EP yesterday (link in sig), which means I can devote much more time to my new black metal band. I am trying focus on the black metal project for the time being, but I am really wanting to get the new EP for my industrial project done and out of the way (the debut full length also linked in sig). Hmmmm...

Last night I was rehearsing with my band on a song where I do the lead vocals. I always do back ups and usually have a few parts on our recordings, but it felt really weird to do lead vocals with the band.

The guys were like "this is sounds great, definitely going to kill live" and I kept saying "ehhh, I dunno, maaaybe". I suppose I'll just have to get over that!

I've been working on my instrumental metal project called Celestial Harmonic. Influences include melodic death metal, ambient, and symphonic metal.

I just completed a new track called Starlit Odyssey if you'd like to listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMQ9eBoB6kE

Been getting a lot of recording done on the days off from school over the past few weeks, trying to finish songs I started recording back in December. For a while I was really bummed out because my Squire P-Bass sounded too fat, so I began trying to just play the riff on various VSTs to get the bass/brass section sound I wanted, but couldn't quite get it. So I went back and attempted it on the bass again and realized I got an excellent war horn sound from my bass on the first try, which was the perfect sound for the melody perfectly. Now I'm considering writing a war horn melody rather then just tremolo picking the bass notes for the second song or not. Aside from that I still need to split the kick drums onto a separate track than the rest of the drums so I can mix them separately and avoid the bleeding cymbals and snares that everyone commented on the earlier Perdu en Soi tracks. The final thing I need to finish is vocals, I have one version of vocals for one song with sort of a gremlin sound. Lyrics aren't exactly easy to make out (partly because they were never fully written anyway) but I can also do a lower Abbath style of vocals to, I just need to finish writing lyrics if I go that route, only thing that worries me is that the cold grim Abbath vocal sound might not fit all of the Perdu en Soi songs, only the darker and melancholic ones. Regardless, I hope to have these tracks done in the next few weeks so I can post them in the critique thread and get a small release online.

In 10 days (April 14th) my band All Hell will be releasing our third album "The Grave Alchemist" through Prosthetic Records. This is our first release through them not counting the re-press of our second album which was originally on HPGD productions so I am pretty excited to get this out. We recorded it last September and had it mastered by Joel Grind and we have been sitting on this waiting on the opportune time to release it and it is almost here! We recently recorded a music video for the song Laid to Unrest and we're just waiting for all the editing to come together so I can't wait until that comes out. Apart from playing bass in All Hell I am working on writing some solo black metal and I am hoping to get a solo thing going if I can ever get enough equipment.

Two tracks from the new album are available on bandcamp along with our first two albums.

That was excellent, actually, I dug it. Reminded me of Dead Poem-era Rotting Christ at parts, though more dirty and less mournful.

Been absent these forums a long time, but the next Oshiego album is almost done sans some vocals, a few guitar solos and mixing/mastering. In my spare time I've been finding people to jam pop-punk songs with.

Did a rough play through of the demo version of one of the upcoming Oshiego tracks (final version will have the very ugly ShaolinLambKiller on drums) : http://bit.ly/2oBOyyU

On a gear-related note, I've been thinking of putting a new neck pickup in the guitar in that video. Basswood body with a bolt-on maple neck, I was thinking something a little different like a DiMarzio Gravity Storm (I have the Evo neck on another guitar and its hot and fluid but the GS is supposed to be a bit more clear and throaty).

Thanks dude, I'm glad you liked it! I'm still in awe that Prosthetic Records took an interest in us and hopefully they will keep us on for more albums. That music video I mentioned in the post should be out tomorrow so keep an eye out for that.

Edit: Updated post to include link to music video.

In my absence, I've had quite a lot going on..

First off, the first ROTTED demo was released on April 8th. There's still a few copies left if anyones interested. Bandcamp link in my signature!

Finished writing and recording the debut ROTTED album which goes off to mixing in about a week, can't wait to see how it sounds when it comes back. Pricing isn't bad either, considering the test mix I got back killed. Artwork for it is coming along nicely, got a few pretty cool ideas I'm having thrown in, and a few personal ones that make me laugh. Hoping it will be out near late Summer, or early Autumn. 500 copies on CD, I'll have 150 of my own to move which is nice.

My Death/Doom project DRENCHED has finally gotten some attention. Had 2 different labels contact me about doing some ROTTED stuff, but I had to turn them to Drenched instead, which is good for me because that EP has just been collecting digital dust sitting on my hard drive for over a year now. Thinking I may rerecord it though, because listening to it now, the guitars are kinda thin. That problem lies solely on the amp I was using. Luckily, I've got my Ampeg VH140C up and running, at least good enough to record guitars at a good volume, and so far I've used it to record the ROTTED album and few other things just for fun. Might even write another song or two for the EP just to lengthen it a bit.

All in all, I'm quite satisfied with how my projects are turning out. 2017 is a good year for music, at least for me. However, I'm not too sure about the future of UNLIFE, seeing as I haven't done anything in over 3 years now for it. I've got a few songs I've been writing that don't fit ROTTED or DRENCHED, so maybe I can make a style change for UNLIFE and use them there. Still Death Metal of course, just not in the style of the former two projects.

Finally got the debut Hellripper album released a couple of weeks ago. http://www.hellripper.bandcamp.com/

Recorded and mixed DIY, mastered by Damian Herring and art by Skadvaldur. I am very pleased with how this turned out! After the assembly of a live band and a couple of local shows we have had a couple of cool gig offers, one of which is a festival we will be playing in Romania later this year along with Necrophobic and Wolfbrigade. Looking forward to that quite a bit haha.

Aside from that, played my first show with Lock Howl in about a year last Friday which went well. Also still working on a full-length for Lord Rot as well as some new Hellripper songs that in the pipeline too.

Been busy writing for a few projects.

I have recorded 2 more for my martial industrial project, and here is the piano outro track to the upcoming EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvqYvIwlNcI

I have also been half assedly working on a black metal project. This track currently lacks vocals and just has placeholder drums for the time being: https://soundcloud.com/glorioususurper/ ... ls-2022017

A lot of action going on.

Just got my main band Desolator signed to Black Lion Records who did a great job promoting Hyperion, they will re-release our previous EP too which is a perfect deal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQLIAQFhi9o

My death/doom band Soliloquium has a full length album in mixing/mastering stage that sounds great, hopefully I'll find a nice label home for that one as well. Managed to get one of my favorite doom singers to guest on two tracks as well :)

I just spent 2 hours fidgeting around with the programmed scratch drums for a new Blacksoul Seraphim song because the tempo change after a certain point in the song goes to some nebulous area between 130 and 131 BPM. Literally every single decimal point between those two numbers is not working for this scratch track, and I'm just not finishing the track because I'm afraid I'll get so angry I'll throw my fucking computer out the window.

Shoot, it's been almost a year since my last update!

My band Decaying Continuum has gone through several lineup changes, including losing our bassist due to work burnout (which is a real shame because he's a good friend of mine now) and potentially getting a new drummer, but that's still up in the air. I've finally finished writing a full length album and me and my vocalist will be recording it in the next few months. I have a drum set now so I can practice regularly and I'll probably be recording them along with the guitar and bass, so the album will have the same lineup as the demo but with real drums and a new vocalist. It sucks to have a small lineup again, but there really isn't a call for this kind of music in Maine. Finding reliable personnel is a shot in the dark.

The material is still heading in a Martyr style direction, or like a death metal version of Vektor I guess. A lot of weird jazzy parts too. I really wish I could post some new tracks, but all I have are some rough scratch recordings of the guitars with programmed drums and midi bass right now. Soon...

Finished the guitar recordings for a 4-song promotional demo this weekend. We've come a long way since the album we recorded in 2014, but there's still a long way to go, as well. Things are looking promising, I think!

Now I need to shake off this cold so I can record vocals.

Also, as usual, people on gear forums saying stuff like "Engl amps don't record well" are full of shit. The Powerball 2 sounds fantastic!

Been rather busy working on the followup releases to my previous martial industrial and neofolk releases, as well as a couple black metal projects. I also have a "dungeon synth" project called Order of the Black Eagle that is appearing with the tracks "The Mercenary King" and "Winds of Change" on an upcoming genre relevant compilation called "Manuscript of a Different Age", which I think is being released for free on Bandcamp on the 20th.

A little harpsichord recording that was used in one of the dungeon synth tracks: https://soundcloud.com/glorioususurper/harpsichord

A short piano piece that will function as the outro track on the upcoming Soldat (martial industrial/neoclassical/dark ambient) EP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvqYvIwlNcI

Finally finished a new Perdu en Soi demo EP, I had the instrument tracks for these done back in January to march but just never got around to finishing the mixing and mastering. The vst brass section on Self Castigate was actually meant to be played on bass, but it just wasn't sounding that great on my p-bass so I opted for the brass vst and I think it came out alright. Now I've got more songs written that will utilize more vsts and hopefully vocals, and with that being said I also plan to come back to the songs from this ep and some of the older Perdu en Soi songs and rewrite them for vocals and bass later on. Either way I am happy with what I did with this EP.

Got a festival gig in the BC interior this weekend so that'll be fun. After that it's finishing the Gatekeeper LP (buncha overdubs to do--meat n spuds all done and slow-cooking) when the studio schedule opens up for us. In the meantime I'll be making some use of my Masters in Mechanics subscription (youtube "cracking the code" if you dunno what that is) and working on making crucial changes to my picking technique for maximum accuracy and relaxed playing. Then it's writing the 2nd Gatekeeper LP, working on my jazz/fusion chops and brush up on my sightreading. Fuck's sake--I'm pretty sure I'm in an abusive co-dependent relationship with my guitars at this point.

Time to listen to the unstoppable Wes Thrailkill for chord voicing inspiration. Kill me.

I recently formed a black metal band, in the vein of Urfaust, Strid, Kvist.

Been fucking ages since I posted in here, and I have been busy.

Most of my older bands have burned out, but I've now got two main focuses.

I joined Insurgency on bass a year and a bit ago. Since then, we've recorded an EP that I think is quite easily the best thing I've ever been involved in, played tons of shows with the likes of Slough Feg, Municipal Waste, a couple with Whipstriker and Apokalyptic Raids, a couple with Voivod, Ranger, Citizen's Arrest, and we played Live Evil fest last year (Pentagram, Antichrist, Demon, Groundhogs, Vulture, Black magic, Wytch Hazel, plenty more). Currently writing more material and booking a UK tour for the autumn.

Opening track of the new EP is here, recorded and mixed by myself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbHg0qo0oWg - total bestial thrash, something like Aura Noir/early Sepultura/Deathcrush-era Mayhem/early Bathory, with a bit of Siege-style hardcore intensity in there. It's fast as fuck and pretty full on, and I'm quite proud of the mix. The drums/bass/first rhythm track were all recorded live, so it's pretty chaotic.

And the other main project is Venomwolf. This one's a solo project. I'm currently in the middle of recording an album, and I recently signed to Iron Pegasus Records for that release. It's a Bathory/Venom/Midnight kind of sound, so it's not exactly pushing the boundaries of originality, but it's a lot of fun and people seem to like it.

EP and demo single (with a Bathory cover) can be found here: http://venomwolf.bandcamp.com/

So at the moment I'm working on finishing up the Venomwolf album and writing/practicing new Insurgency shit. Keeping myself busy, haha.

Decided to reinstall my copy of Reason LE9 that I got with my PodStudio UX2 a few years ago, when I tried it out initially before I couldn't quite grasp it back then because I didn't know very much about mixing and working with vsts, but now that I tried it again I'm very happy I gave it another shot. The amount of instruments it comes with are a large step up from the DSK vsts I was using, even if I still love the DSK Music Box vst and a few other unique ones. I immediately made a test blast beat track and it sounds a lot better than Hydrogren drum machine, even if it will take a little extra work to get my patterns sounding right.

I also began recording a new version of What Made the Devil in Reason and I'm very pleased with it. I began with jut playing the main melody on a choir vst, and from there I just added tracks freely and improvised a lot of things and turned it into a complete song after a few hours. I know it sounds like a jam session sort of thing, but I'm quite satisfied with how it came out and plan do do a bit of mixing so I can use this as the start of the next Perdu en Soi release. I will for sure do a new version of What Makes us Strong, but I am uncertain if I will do another Call to Strength, as I may just make that the intro to What Makes us Strong. Otherwise I have two longer songs that are pretty much written that only need to be recorded and have new drum tracks made since I will be using Reason for my drums now instead of using the drums tracks I already made in Hydrogen.
