Savage Master's Ready to Sin from the last album, has a riff very similar to Original Sin's Conjuration of the Watcher.

Helstar's "To Sleep, Perchance to Scream". Is this a reference to Rush's "To Sleep, Perchance to Dream" from La Villa Strangiato?

Unless it's supposed to just be a play off the quote from Hamlet. The line is from the "to be or not to be" soliloquy

Now I feel like a dummy. I've never read Hamlet, shit. I assume both are references to that. Thank you.

So is "into the abyss I fall" a quote, too? Considering at least three metal songs start with it...

(Iron Maiden - Powerslave, Darkthrone - Cromlech, Poison - Sphinx)

Amaranthe's Boomerang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIDigYh9JyY (off the new album) partly rips off the chorus of
Dead Or Alive's You Spin Me Round: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGNiXGX2nLU , whose singer died recently, btw.

Black Sabbath has a song on that 13 album called "End of the Beginning."

And Sabbat (UK) released a live video back in 1990 titled, The End of the Beginning.

Sorta funny given that Sabbat and Sabbath are so close in name. Odd coincidence.

And then also, Judas Priest's newest album, Redeemer of Souls, has a song called "Beginning of the End."

Good one. I've always gotten dejavu from the Baphomet but never figured it out and that is spot on. I don't think that's the only part of that album that has similarities to other stuff either! I might listen to it today and try to do some sleuthing of my own

There's also that cool little acoustic intro to the Souls of Black album with the same name, Beginning of the End. I've seen that title a lot in metal. I guess it just sounds badass.

I think it needs to be used a little less.

Bit of an odd one, but the keyboard riff here in Emperor's The Tongue of Fire, starting at 3:00:

https://youtu.be/KCPoYEbWc7U?t=3m

And... the intro to Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwuy4hHO3YQ

Or is that just me...?

I imagine it's 100% unintentional but the verse rhythms on The Obsessed's "Freedom" and Black Sabbath's Slipping Away seem to be identical.

Random, but I remember on Korn's Issues album there's a song where Jon Davis uses almost exactly the same melody with almost exactly the same voice as the chorus of Alice in Chains' "Dirt" (the album's title track), does anyone remember what song it was?

I wouldn't call this a similarity, so much as an outright copy.

Silverbullet from Russia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_Ve0O46V64

Judas Priest - The Sentinel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tv-e9DJqK4

At first I thought it was just a cover sung in Russian, but I consulted a friend of mine who speaks the language and he said that wasn't the case. Apparently, the title roughly translates to "Yeti" or "Abominable Snowman".

Teutonic Thrash Metal or Bavarian Beerdrinking Songs (incl. yodelling)? Won't get any more epic I guess...

Another cover similarity:

Image

The song title means "I'd like to have a lake of beer".

In Morbid Angel's Opening of the Gates, starting at 01:28, I just cannot stop thinking of the "RING BROTHER RING FOR ME" part of Candlemass' At the Gallows End.

I just observed the similarity of Toxic Holocaust 2008 An Overdose of Death...

"Funerals Obscure" later on that EP has a riff taken straight out of "Angel of Disease".

Katharsis - Ashes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvaAdRn_nFY&t=15

The intro riff is somewhat similar to the well known one from

Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuTg6cK1mb8&t=20

I'm quite confused right now if there's another Sabbath riff that's even more similar or if I'm mixing this up...

Buckethead - 12th Floor, the riff at 0:33

and

Anthrax - Blood, the riff at 5:03

The drumming is different, and there's one small difference between the riffs, but right when I heard Blood the other day, my mind shot straight to that 12th Floor riff.

Actually the more I hear them side by side, the guitars are almost exactly the same.

An odd similarity I noticed yesterday:

Napalm Death - Scum (intro)

sounds like

Pentagram - All Your Sins (0:18)

Pretty much the same riff except for the little differences at the end of each.

Not that odd considering Lee Dorian covered All Your Sins on Cathedral's In Memorium demo a couple years later.

"Scum" is on the Nik Bullen side.

Here's Graveland's "Barbarism Returns" at this mark.

And the same riff here pops up seven years later in Satanic Warmaster's "Raging Winter".

the beginning of Mutiilation- Eggs of Melancholy
