the only thing more annoying than mike patton's voice is his personality

Long overdue but better late than never. I always felt Album of the Year wasn't a finishing point but rather an effort to gain some new ground but only half achieving it. All their albums are good in some way so I can't see this as being anything but positive.

Honestly, as much as I love Mike Patton, he's been churning out enough stuff through his other projects that I am fairly well-satisfied. Hell, Tomahawk even covers much of the same alt-rock-ness that FNM has dealt in. No, what gets me interested in this... is everyone else. I love Gould's basswork, and combined with Puffy's funk-rock patterns, I'll be happy with whatever comes out. Roddy's post-FNM band kinda major sucked (at least if it was the one I think it was), but it was also as not-FNM as you could get. So it'll be interesting to see what he does back in this style. And regarding Jon Hudson on guitar: I don't have Album Of The Year, which was the only thing he was on before this, so... anyone know better than I do on that?

Very happy about the return of the Faithless. Lovin' the priestly attire gimmick, and they're the only metal/funk/alt styleee I could deal with. That whole story about Jim Martin being clueless that Mr Bottom was gay was freakin' hilarious, whether true or just brilliant "we lost a member" PR instead of the usual "musical differences" rhet.

i'll check it out; FNM has a cool style and i like all their patton-era albums. but as he said, it might just sound like a bunch of 50-year-olds. haha. at least they admit that straight off the bat though!

Good. I've been due for an initiation with this band for a long time. Liked what I've heard, but still haven't jumped in and listened to a lot of their stuff. Maybe if I like what I hear on this new album, I'll be inclined to check out their earlier stuff which seems to have achieved a legendary status among both metal and non-metal underground communities.

I suppose I am due to get another album aside from The Real Thing.

Found a new song they've been playing live. This video is from July of this year. Song is called 'Motherfucker'.

And another. 'Superhero'.

Really excited for this. Definitely one of my all-time favorite bands. Should be interesting to see what they churn out.

Meh, not too excited, Patton seems like an alright dude though, and some of his solo stuff was really interesting, so who knows!

I don't care what these guys do because they're absolutely horrible, but man if they start playing at metal fests that I am attending that will be even more horrible. I sense a lot of horribility coming up.

These songs right here are shitty. So shitty in fact that my hype for the new album is pretty much dead.

You have no hope for an album because of two live performances of songs that are a) not confirmed for the album yet b) most likely unfinished and c) of sub-par audio quality?

Yeah, unfortunately. I guess I set my expectations too high or something. And don't get me wrong, I wish I liked those songs more and I'm still gonna check the full album out because I'm a fan of the band.

Supposedly Motherfucker is for the album, and it sounds like a half serious effort started from a jam. The audio quality in these leave videos is really bad so I'll wait until the single drops in November. The thing that disappoints me is the constant use of 'motherfucker', I'm not an anti-swearer or get fussed by that sort of thing but it sounds dated and too braindead Max Cavalera for my taste.

Same here. I've been meaning to listen to Angel Dust but haven't gotten around to it yet. I guess I'll check out this new one too, eventually.

You should totally check out Angel Dust when you get the chance. There is a good chance you'll dig it if you are into early 90's alternative/metal. It's my favorite thing they have ever done.

It's, uh, really really really good. Just one of those albums. You feel better after having heard it.

I consider myself a FNM fan, but I have never heard the 2 first albums, because Chuck Mosley has the worst voice ever!

Surely that dubious honour belongs to Patton himself.

What are you even talking about. They don't sound remotely similar! Mosley sounds like he hit his head has a lisp and sings through his nose!

That sounded pretty cool. I'm looking forward to the album, but I'm expecting more lounge piano and rapping than metal.

It's adequate but needs more Mike Patton, as it sounds like he's just doing guest vocals. I'm not one to shy away from swearing but this needs less swearing. Swearing in music is so tired and dumb, it only ever works in small doses.

Clearly they're trolling by releasing the least interesting track on the album. Which is a very Faith No More thing to do.

No doubt there will be much better and more captive stuff on the album.
