I put all of my solo thrash songs together into an EP. Tech-y thrash metal. I think they almost might have served better in individual settings or as demos but I wanted to have them all in one place, so please tell me if you like it (or if you don't).

http://vinceisbulletface.bandcamp.com/

Thank you. That track is just me. A literal bedroom band. 'Adromedean Presence' is great. You have obviously been worshiping devoutly at the altar of the riff. Everything flows very well. I especially like the arpeggiated chords mid-way through the track. I was headbanging involuntary.
The only critcisms I could give you are probably already aware of, guitar tone needs improvement, I suggest going much dirtier. Get a real drummer (though I like the arrangements.) And some vocals would definitely add another dimension to it.

Thank you it means a lot! I am aware of the amateurishness of the sound. Bulletface too is just a bedroom band  so I'm sure you can understand having the limitations. This one is probably going to remain the most unfinished, with the drum programming and lack of vox and all. I can't sing at all, but my doom and grindcore bands have vocalists, and both of these will be releasing albums soon. Someone who actually goes the whole nine yards to learn all the instruments themselves is incredibly admirable though, so major props to you. You can always tell when the drummer and guitarist are the same because the parts compliment themselves so well.

Here's an instrumental rehearsal recording of a song that my atmospheric black metal band did last month: https://soundcloud.com/evenfallstonight ... al-6-13-14

It's pretty raw (as is the case with rehearsal recordings) but I am pretty pleased with the song itself. Just looking for feedback on the song in general, not so much the recording/production.

finally listened. I can dig on it my main complaints is the production since it's almost white ear piercing wash over all the guitars.

actually ain't so bad as you made it out. only part I hate was a section in the first song where it sounded like the bass was hell I don't know didn't sound like a bass soudned like something stupid, but anyway overall pretty good, decent energetic thrash. really needs vocals.

Raw is right haha. I think it sound great. I like all the chords int eh beginning and the parts where it picks up. If you produced it right, it could sit between ethereal post-black metal or something more depressing and extreme, I like that.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I would definitely like to go back and record a more polished version, but that might be difficult as for most of the year I'm going to be living in a separate state as the drummer so we won't be able to rehearse for that time. I'm definitely gonna keep writing for the project and hope that I can get back together with him in the future to do some more polished recordings of the stuff we did this summer and any future stuff I write.

Hey guys! While the sound quality on these might not be the best as they are just some phone recordings, I'd be interested to hear what people have to say about our stage presence. We definitely have some work to do, and are trying to get better. This is from our last gig, which was the eighth overall and fourth gig with the current five-piece line-up. There's more videos on our channel, but here are a couple:

Nightrider (Our silly speed metal song)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en7YZI8lCQY

Sweet Green Pea (New track)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnvnFXCRtoI

Any and all feedback - as brutal as necessary - is appreciated!

Who is the bassist? cause he needs to spend a bit more time practicing and less time making goofy fucking faces. Overall needs to be a lot tighter. when it started I thought they were doing a sound test not actually starting to play a song. It comes out sounding a bit sloppy overall.

A little different than my other couple of songs, but hopefully someone will find it enjoyable. Not as long either.

I try not to post very often, but I figured this time I would upload this one since it's got a nice groove to it and might be fun to someone. What do y'all guys think?

http://avorym.nl/trapped.mp3

started from scratch with the mix, mixed in stems this time, took out the DI'd guitars and just kept the micd stuff.
Curious for reactions! I really don't feel like mixing this thing anymore! this project has been open for so long..

Some of it sounds a little jumbled and unwound, but tell you the truth it kinda adds to the chaotic allure of this type of music. Normally those kind of high vocals, especially the screaming at the very end, don't work very well. But that's not the case here, and I can't put my finger on why it works here. It could be that they just aren't very obnoxious, but whatever, it works. The guitar tone is awesome, by the way.

The riffs are pretty sweet, but it need something more technical going on, and the composition could be developed a bit more. And also, I don't know why, but something about it screams "I need a phazer lead" or something.

Holy shit that was amazing! I'd like to hear the guitars more but other than that great job. And metal as fuck too!

:nods:

In other news, I just completed everything there is to do with my band's debut doom album. It's a hefty listen for this thread, but I think it won't disappoint:

They remind me of Slowdive bootlegs from the 90s. To me, this is closer to the shoegaze sound and atmosphere than something like Alcest. I think the guitars may need some EQ to tame some of the high frequencies. Overall, I like it! Good stuff!

Definite sounding better this time around, more dynamic and clearer. The details in the arrangement can be heard in this mix. Enjoyed the chaotic and barbaric sound!

Also, changed my bandcamp URL a while ago, it's in my signature. Cheers!

That's an interesting and unexpected parallel to make. Not entirely sure what to think of it, but I love Slowdive so I will consider it complimentary.
I listened to your demo. It definitely carries an atmosphere, and has a kind of primitive charm, but for my tastes it is... 'basic'. It needs some other element to elevate it.

I really like 90s shoegaze, Slowdive's Souvlaki is one of my all time favourite albums. Did you know that they doing some reunion shows? Sure hope they tour Australia.

Thanks for listening to my demo too!

Man! Does not disappoint at all! The riffing is awesome, nice fuzz tone. There's some interesting layering in the sound too.

I love the atmosphere especially on the first track. Maybe you could try having the vocals a bit louder? But other than that this is very good.

Sounds fine composition-wise without having the context of the instruments to evaluate it by, and that context is a very important part of composition. I'd suggest moving forward with putting it into real instruments.

I already posted a thread, but then saw this one.

Could I get some general feedback on the first track of my atmospheric black metal project? I haven't done much mixing, so it's relatively raw and vocals have not yet been added.

Just came in to say haven't been avoiding this thread but my laptop doesn't really like bandcamp and soundcloud, I'll have to catch up when I get home. I'll check that newest thing that's in youtube..

Iron.. I'd like to judge what you presented but I really don't care for digitized stuff overall so that always sours any thoughts I would have on it.

This is a rough mix of one of my projects new song. I am considering adding a little more lead guitar, and perhaps the synth, then have the vocalist come in and do his part. Anyways, I am just looking for some input on the current sound.

Don't worry bout it, sheep slayer.

But, I recently hired Cloggedurethra for drums, and I would like advice as to whether it's mixed correctly or not. I used InfiniteNexus's guideline when mixing it, but I also used my own judgment to make changes when necessary.

It sounds pretty entrancing. The only thing I could notice about the drums was that the cymbals were a little hot, especially the ride. They could also use some variation around the 2:30 mark.

Thanks dude. I was thinking the same in regards to the ride, and yeah, some variation wouldn't hurt. I think I will give it a go a bit later.

So below is a much better mix, with a little more guitar recorded. The vocals and synth still need to be recorded, but I am pretty happy with it myself.

I'm a big fan of layering in music, at least when kept in moderation. The acoustic interlude and the swelling leads afterwards are mixed in really nicely. This sounds really captivating like the last one, and the drum change towards 2:23 makes it sound a lot better. Still could be a little tighter with the drums, especially around the blasting part at the end, but I think the overall sound is a lot easier to get sucked into. Can't wait to hear the vocals, bro.

Judging just from the Soundcloud link, here is my opinion:

1. Your vocals on the second and third track need a lot of work, performance wise. Also, they could stand to use a little volume reduction. The last track, and somewhat on the 3rd, the vocals sounded pretty good (the more grim black metal vocals).

2. When you use a drum machine to program a blast beat, you really need to back off on the snare volume. Not only does not doing so overwhelm the ear with snare hits, but a live drummer does not ever hit the snare as hard as he does when throwing a regular beat where he has a second to recover after the snare hit. Search on Youtube for a drummer throwing a blastbeat, and you'll see what I mean. There's almost no forearm movement; it all comes from the wrist and fingers.

3. You REALLY need to watch for sound clipping. The second and fourth tracks have painfully obvious clipping, and it makes the listener just stop the track, right then and there. I understand this is supposed to be raw sounding, but regardless it shouldn't ever clip.

4. This is really a personal taste one for me, but guitar panning is your friend. At least two guitar tracks, but a lot of times 4, panned at 40-75% left and right (I personally do 100% L+R for rhythms, and 50% L+R for melody lead guitars). Most raw black metal I listen to (and enjoy) have almost fully panned guitars, at 75-100% L+R (Filosofem and Transylvanian Hunger, from Burzum and Darkthrone, respectively). It adds depth and atmosphere.
