One of those rare times when I purchase some non-metal stuff:

Image

Pinback - Pinback (I enjoy Pinback but some of the tracks on this debut are just too damn dreary for even myself. Nevertheless, it's an alright album and contains my favorite song of theirs.)
Primus - Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People DVD/CD jewelcase version (Finally! been wanting this for some time, some good stuff on here I've never seen.)

Last week was slow, I should have at least a couple things on the way at the moment.

Todd - Purity Pledge [UK, sounds like Unsane + Lair Of The Minotaur = wicked]

You bought a CD from a band called Todd?! Oh, the irony...

Not metal (arguably!) but I'm pretty excited to be taking care not just of my opera blind spot, but more specifically my Wagner blind spot. Always been a big fan of classical but for whatever reason, the occasional Public Radio performance notwithstanding, I've never really tuned into opera. Gotta say, though, after only listening to the first act of Tannhauser so far, this is as evocative and transportive as I'd expected. I can't even imagine how I'll react to the Ring cycle.

33 discs, ten operas. Judging from reviews I've read, the Ring cycle and Tristan are among the best recorded versions. Cannot wait to abscond from reality for a while.

(Apparently today is "post your hauls atop the C-D section of your collection" day.)

Wow, I might have to pick this up sometime soon. I've been meaning to pick up a Wagner collection for awhile, and that thing is insanely cheap for the amount of content.

Oh yeah, I meant to mention that it's only sixty bucks on Amazon (and importcds as well, which kind of sucks because for the last several months their prices were uniformly below -- and sometimes well below -- Amazon's; suddenly they're a bit less ... competitive, I guess).

edit: and that Tliltic Tlapoyauak artwork has me a-googling.

Just got a pic disc of J Church - 'Camels, Spilled Coronas, and the Sound of Mariachi Bands' in the mail today. Great melodic punk from S.F.

Yesterday I did a 10 black metal CD grab bag from Red Stream and a 5 CD grab bag from Season of Mist. I will be sure and show off what I get from the two when they come in.

Swung by my local used record store and got these two:

Deicide - Legion
Nominon - Monumentomb

The Nominon was a blind purchase, but it turned out to be incredibly good! Awesome death metal from Sweden, and i guess their drummer joined Destroyer 666 a couple years ago.

In case you or anyone else is interested in this Wagner box set, the price of it at importcds, which I mentioned in that other post, has dropped back to "normal" importcd prices -- $48. I just snagged an Alban Berg 8-disc set for $30 and Current 93's Inmost Light trilogy for $28, two items I'd been watching ever since I missed out on getting them before the last price upswing.

I found it on their eBay store. Here's the link - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191235162566

They will probably relist a new one.

The last one was well worth it. I may end up having to snag one of these too, after I get paid of course. The other two grab bags and a few other random single CD orders have me spent up at the moment.

Exactly why I really want it and really don't want it. Obscure bands can be a blessing or a terrible listening experience.

Trying things blindly can sometimes be a bit thrilling and may very well turn out to be a way to find new bands you wouldn't otherwise have listened to. Even if you don't like it at first you can still keep the items in your collection and periodically re-visit them.

I've got both of those Spiculum Iratus things in that black metal lot, and while they're nothing mindblowing, they're pretty intense and not boring American black metal, sort of like if Xasthur played way faster and heavier. One of those Moribund Records-type bands that sound like ... wind howling. They've managed to survive my periodic CD purges, anyway.

edit: I should add that one of those is a split (a long one, at that, if memory serves) but I can't recall a thing about the other band -- including the name.

I think I'm going to get it. Anyone want me to tell them how they are after they arrive? So you can make an easier choice off of my suffering/enjoyment? PM me if you do, so I can keep track of it.

Well, I put 2 CD cases that hold 200 each and 22 random cds on craigslist for 40 dollars.

So far that's it. There was a tornado near my house just now, so I kinda forgot about cds for a little bit haha.
